Although it’s been less than a month into the New Year a lot of very impressive music has already dropped. Below, are my Top 5 Rap Songs that have come out so far in 2018. Just to be clear, before anything else, this list is entirely subjective and all the songs on this list are purely my opinion. So, with that being said, let’s get into the top 5 rap songs of 2018 so far:
5. “Alone” by Russ
Despite seeming to be everyone’s least favorite person in the Hip-Hop community, Russ seemed unfazed as he continues to write, produce, and make all of his own songs. Russ dropped “Alone” a song about how he feels alone while on the road and how he’s been having a hard time connecting with people as of late (Including his own mother). Russ once again delivered another good song.
4.“God’s Plan” by Drake
Aubrey Graham did it again. Aubrey, better known as Drake, dropped his new EP, “Scary Hours” on January 19. The EP consisted of two songs, “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity.” Despite both songs being good, “God’s Plan” was far and away the better song. It’s a stereotypical Drake song with a good beat and catchy hook and worth a listen.
3. “Used To Be” by GASHI
With his new album “Stairs 2” to be dropped in 2018, New York’s newest rising star might just be GASHI, and he proved that again with “Used To Be.” Within the Last few months GASHI has released several singles including “Turn Me Down,” “No No No,” and now “Used To Be.” GASHI’s mix of crooning and yelling over an aggressive beat make for another very impressive track in his library, and I highly recommend “Used To Be.”
2. “Learn How To Watch” by Carnage, MadeinTYO, & Mac Miller
“Learn How To Watch” is a song that, in my opinion, benefits greatly from Carnage’s production. In typical Carnage fashion, “Learn How To Watch” is an aggressive beat with a hard bass drop. Also featuring on the song are vocals by MadeinTYO (he does the hook) and Mac Miller (he handles the only verse). All in all “Learn How To Watch” is an incredibly enjoyable song that I’d suggest anyone with two minutes of spare time should checkout.
1. “Mood” by Lil Uzi Vert (Produced TM88 and Southside)
Uzi and TM88 are at it again, the duo collaborated to make, arguably one of the most successful song of 2017, “XO Tour Llif3.” Now add in another member of production group “808 Mafia” in Southside and they all combine to make an absolute banger. “Mood” has a beat that fits Uzi’s personality and vocals perfectly and if you’re a Lil Uzi fan, you will definitely enjoy “Mood.”
Honorable Mentions
“Famous” by French Montana, “Watery” by SahBabii, and “King’s Dead” by Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, & James Blake
