There aren't always the best shows on TV all of the time. However, Food Network always provides constant quality shows. Sure, some are better than others and some are better as just background noise, but some are genuinely good shows. Here's my list of my top five favorite Food Network shows!
1. Cutthroat Kitchen
Okay, forget Food Network, "Cutthroat Kitchen" is just one of the best shows on TV, period. It has competition, reality, trash-talking, sabotages, and cooking, what more could you want? Also, Alton Brown's snarky comments directly to the viewers about what the contestants are screwing up really make the show perfect. If you haven't seen this, it's a must.
2. Cupcake Wars
"Cupcake Wars" has been a favorite of mine for a long time. The first round of cupcake baking involves using strange ingredients like corn or hot dogs, which is always interesting to watch. Then there's the decoration portion, which you'll eventually find yourself complaining that the contestants make the same decoration mistakes over and over (don't use inedible decorations!). Then there's the 1,000 cupcake display and I love to watch the displays that the contestants design! The show is addicting and I highly recommend it.
3. Beat Bobby Flay
Okay, so, the best part about this show is getting to watch Bobby Flay's arrogance get wiped off his face when he loses. Yes, it doesn't happen often and yes, he is a very good chef, but you know, he isn't the best in the world, he's just a bit too conceited for me. So, it's entertaining to watch him stress over losing to amateurs (and occasionally actually losing).
4. The Next Food Network Star
As you can see, Alton Brown makes an appearance on the show again. However, this time in a more realistic setting, where we really see his personality. If you love cooking shows and you love competition shows where someone is eliminated every week, then this is the perfect show for you! If watching contestants being put through a series of tests to examine star power and cooking ability isn't enough, Giada and Alton's moments are fantastic.
5. Guy's Grocery Games
Of course, Guy Fieri had to make this list. "Guy's Grocery Games" (Triple G, not to be confused with his other show, Triple D), is one of those good background noise shows. People run amok through a fake grocery store to gather specific ingredients (certain prices or certain flavors) to make a dish inside a small kitchen station inside the grocery store. To earn extra money at the end the winner runs throughout the whole store trying to find all of the items on Guy's list. It's great.
