That Made Me Fall In Love With Reading

12
My Top 5 Favorite Books

Reading is one of my favorite things to do but in college, but there is hardly any time to sit down and curl up with a book for a day. I’m so excited to finally have some free time to catch up on reading, and even re-read some of my favorite books! If you love reading just like me, or want to read something that isn’t The Fault In Our Stars or The Hunger Games or any other popular book out there right now, here are some of my top favorites.

Where She Went by Gayle Forman

This book is the sequel to If I stay and trust me it doesn’t disappoint! The story picks up three years after the last one where Mia and Adam are living completely different lives. They happen to be in the same city for one night by fate. I don’t want to give too much away but I couldn’t put this book down! Perfect little romance story for a cold winter night.

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

The best way I can describe this book is that it’s almost like The Fault In Our Stars but not sad. Madeline Whittier has a rare disease, and doesn’t really have many friends other than her mom and nurse. Then a family moves in next door with a very cute boy, Olly. The rest is history. This book reminds you of what it was like to fall in love for the first time. Trust me, there is a happy ending but many different twists and turns.

Bared to You by Sylvia Day

For those of you that loved the Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy, this is very similar but written just a little bit better. Also there is no contract and things to that nature but more of a realistic storyline than Fifty Shades. The twist is, that she has demons of her own along with her hunky man candy.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

This one I’ve read about three times back in high school and still love it. This story starts off with Annabel on her first day of school, and her best friend hates her. She’s pretty much alone until she meets Owen. There is a reason why her best friend hates her, and to find the truth you’ve got to be willing to hear it.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

This is hands down one of my top favorite books. I’ve read it twice, and I could read it a million times and still laugh and be upset at the same parts over and over. Abby is just starting off college, with her best friend far away from home. She wants to start over, and she wants to stay away from trouble. Then trouble comes knocking at her door the second she meets Travis Maddox. (Personally when my best friend recommended this book to me, she told me she pictured Harry Styles as Travis and I have to say it kind of fits. He’s lean, cut and covered in tattoos so it makes sense.) Abby tries to avoid him, but a simple bet rocks both of their worlds. I personally hope they never make a movie out of this book because of the way I pictured Travis in my mind. I just don’t want Hollywood to mess it up, unless they cast Harry Styles then I can’t complain! Overall a great book and it does have a second book, Walking Disaster, that is in the point of view of Travis and it’s just a good as the first!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
