The seasons are changing. It is getting cooler, the world is obsessing over pumpkin spice again, and sweater weather is approaching. In a slow preparation for the fall, there has been an interesting list of shows appearing and coming back for a new season. Thus far, everything is a hit. Here are my top five fall shows to watch. Get ready to set them DVRs.
5. Rob & Chyna
Airing on Sundays on the E! Parents to be Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna have their own six part one-hour reality show. Premiered on Sept. 11, the couple gives the world a slight view of their personal lives while welcoming their first child together. We get to see all the emotional roller coaster of a relationship in the public eye. First episode alone shows that they still dealing with early relationship bs and their engagement and baby on the way, can make or break it. It appears to be more real the Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
4. How to Get Away with Murder
My Thursday's night drama is BAACCK!
ABC's How to Get Away with Murder has returned with season three, airing this Thursday, Sept. 22. Low-key I'm on major catching up mode, due to work and school, I started to slip up on my shows last fall. As per usual, they left us with a track sheet full of questions and all in our feelings. Whenever we think we figured it out, Shonda Rhimes throws us for another loop. I have no idea what to expect but I'm anticipating that will be mind-blowing like always.
4. Empire
The Lyons left us in a gasp. With the wedding between of Hakeem and Laura that turned into Lucious and Anika, Anika carrying Hakeem's baby, and Rhonda suffering a miscarriage while piecing together who was the cause of her falling down the stairs that ending up her losing the child. So much drama was packed last season. So season three on FOX, which will air Wednesday, Sept. 21, will be completely unpredictable. I'm ready!
3. Power
Tis' the show, where everyone is loosing their ish. Jamie resurrected Ghost and the "Power" has been shifted dramatically. Season three on STARZ started in the summer, July 17th but will have the season finale Sept. 25th. Again due to my busy schedule, I feel behind a week or two, I'm playing another round of catch up. Another crime drama that keep me on my tippy toes, who knows what will happen but I'm all for it.
2. Queen Sugar
Anything with Ava DuVernay and Oprah, I'm more than likely going to rave for it regardless. This show is a drama on Oprah's OWN network, based off the novel of the same name by Natalie Baszile. Queen Sugar premiered on Aug. 1st and has already been renewed for a second season. This shows shows the world a realistic look to Black American southern life in the point of views of three siblings. I've heard plenty of amazing reviews and I will be finally starting to watch it tonight.
Here's my excited dance
1. Atlanta
Donald Glover/Childish Gambino finally reunited with the acting world and blessed us with one of the most blackest T.V. out. This comedy-drama is on FX on Tuesdays. Premiered on Sept. 6th, Atlanta is about two cousin on the come up, trying to make it big in the ATL rap scene to have a better life. This show has a dark comedy vibe to it, and a lot of cultural jokes. A lot of stuff that majority of Black people can relate to and have experienced. If you don't get it, you don't get it. You can tell the show is made and for Black people but it's universal enough for any and everyone to enjoy period. I highly recommend everyone to watch this!
All five of these shows have broken down barriers, hopscotched all the statistics, and have given a voice to many people who have been smudged my mainstream media. At least watch the first episodes of all five and end up attached and addicted like the rest of us.
