Personally, I love reading. I know that there are many people out there who do not feel the same but nonetheless, I love it. I love being transported to a new place while in reality, I am just sitting on my couch at home stuffing my face with chips. Books are exciting, stressful, heart-wrenching, sometimes tear-jerking adventures. No matter what you are into, there is a book out there for you. Take my following recommendations for example. I have everything from contemporary to science fiction, I even have a non-fiction in here! So without further ado, here is my 2017 summer reading list.
1. 1984 by George Orwell
Yes, I am starting off with a heavy classic novel but I have been hearing people say that this book is a really important read, specifically for our day and age. I do not know much about this book but I do know that it is a dystopian/new government type book and that genre is my personal favorite.
2. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
This book (and the rest of the trilogy) is about a girl named Lara Jean who falls in love with boys but instead of telling them about her feelings, she writes them a long, heart-felt letter. She takes these letters and hides them away in her room for no one to see. One day, these letters accidentally get sent out. I’ve read the first book in this series and I really enjoyed it. It is just so light-hearted and fun (which is exactly what I need after this awful semester).
3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Any book fanatic reading this right now will probably faint when I say that I have never read this book before. This book is very popular and is beloved by many. It follows a girl named Liesel during Hitler’s rein in Nazi Germany. Even as a young girl, she has to face things like death and war. This book sounds like it will be tough at times but will be fulfilling in the end. The book was also made into a film in 2013, so maybe I will watch it after finishing the book.
4. Armada by Ernest Cline
I just finished reading another one of his books, Ready Player One (which is also a recommendation by the way it is so good). So, now I am itching to read another one of his books. Armada is a story about a kid named Zach who loves video games and one day his video games come to life in a very interesting way. Ernest Cline just has such a gift with world building and character building. He is just a talented writer and I can’t wait to read this book.
5. The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg
I’ve been meaning to read this book for a few years. My softball coach in high school was obsessed with this book and would talk to us about it all the time. This book gives us an insight into why we have the habits we do and how to make/break them. I feel like the book is full of helpful tips for daily life.
Well, there it is folks! Hopefully, there is a book in this list that sparks your interest. Even if there wasn’t, I hope that you are inspired to start reading. Happy reading!
