Top 5 Binge Worthy Shows

If you’re a Netflix lover like myself, could easily be happy cozying up in your pjs and a warm blanket with your laptop, then you’ve probably found yourself in search of new things to watch. I often find myself revisiting the same shows over and over and loving every minute of it. Sometimes, though, it is wonderful to experience a show you’ve never seen before too.

Here are some amazing shows that I feel are binge worthy, especially while you decompress over the break from your semester.

“Gossip Girl”

For years I heard friends and friends of friends talk about “Gossip Girl” and Chuck Bass. When it was still on the air and releasing new episodes I never caught the interest to sit down and see what it was about. It didn’t seem to have the substance that I was interested in. There came a day when I was on break and in need of something to entertain some down time. The reviews were stellar for the show, so I proceeded to my good old friend Netflix and started from the beginning.

It was well worth the try and surprised me. This show grabs your attention and keeps you coming back for more. It’s suspenseful. It’s well written. It will surprise you to the very end. What I loved most about watching this show was watching the characters evolve and grow throughout the seasons.

“Grace and Frankie”

“Grace and Frankie” is a Netflix original that my mom got me hooked on. It’s a lovely story about two older women who find themselves at a crossroads in their lives and having to rebuild what they thought was their lives. And they have to do it together which is a feat in itself. One woman is a successful career woman and the other a free and in touch with nature woman. There is humor, drama, but most of all a wonderful story that mimics the coming of age but for the older woman.

“Game of Thrones”

Action, adventure, romance, and a confusing timeline? It has it all! I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: this show is a wonderfully written and thought out concept that will keep you wanting more. The episode will end and you’ll be in denial that an hour could have passed already. (I know this isn’t on Netflix, but still binge worthy nonetheless.)

“Grey’s Anatomy”

This is my tried and true when it comes to needing something to watch. I love the medicine, the drama, and the characters. It rips my heart out even when I know that a character is about to exit the show forever. If you’ve never tried watching it, I highly recommend, or if you’ve haven’t seen it in years maybe revisit it. Definitely suggest some tissues on hand though.

“Charmed”

A good old 90s classic that is full of the magical and drama and even humor that you may be looking for in a show. It’s got fun magical creatures—some of them good, some of them bad—who bring and extra depth of life to the plot. Then there’s the family element that will warm your heart as you watch three sisters go through it all while trying to figure out their magical powers.

Good luck on your binging adventures and be sure to have plenty of snacks ready!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
