Sports are a huge part of our culture and, therefore, they have garnered a lot of attention from Hollywood. However, it seems like truly great sports movies are few and far between. This is my personal list of the top five sports movies ever made.
5. "Moneyball"
It was difficult for me to put a movie this new into my top five, but this movie deserves it. The true story of how analytics were used to revolutionize baseball makes for a fascinating storyline, especially for those interested in the history of sports. The plot of the movie itself is also pretty compelling, as it highlights the difficulties of being a trailblazer.
4. "Hoosiers"
"Hoosiers" is a bonafide classic. This movie tells the story of a new coach bringing a rag-tag team together and accomplishing more than anyone thought possible. The movie has come to symbolize what high school sports should, ideally, be and it also makes for an extremely uplifting watch.
3. "Major League"
Outside of "Moneyball," I have never enjoyed any of the serious baseball movies. I have always found them cheesy and boring, which is probably why I loved Major League so much. Major League is funny, exciting, and, quite frankly, the most interesting baseball movie that you could possibly make.
2. "Remember the Titans"
This is, by far, my favorite serious sports movie. The movie takes on the complex issue of race relations head on with the story of an integrated football team. The movie sucks you in from the very start and plays with your emotions in ways that very few movies can. The premise, the plot, and the characters all make this movie one of my all time favorites.
1. "Caddyshack"
I had to put "Caddyshack" at number one because it may be my favorite comedy (and it just so happens to be related to sports). As a comedy lover, "Caddyshack" takes the cake in the silly-stupid category of humor. I really wish that I was mature enough not to absolutely love this movie, but that's simply not the case.
