Ultra Music Festival Twitter

Once again we are folding over another month and starting fresh again with 30 days of concert opportunities. This April, there are more than just a few EDM shows going on in the Bay Area, but here are just five of the top picks. To check out the rest, visit: http://westcoastedm.com/sanfrancisco/

  1. Pegboard Nerds
  • Where & When: Ruby Skye 18+ (San Francisco) April 13
  • Genre: electronica, dubstep, electronic dance music
  • Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pegboard-nerds-rawtek...
  • About : Pegboard Nerds, the Danish/Norwegian combo of DJ Alexander Odden and DJ Michael Parsberg, are sweeping the nation with their Revenge of the Nerds 2017 tour. Finally stopping in San Francisco for a night before heading down south to Los Angeles, the two are sure to wreck havoc on Ruby Skye. The duo has worked with big name DJ’s such as Jauz, NGHTMRE, and Krewella and are sure to be making their spot as one of them. The event is featured at Ruby Skye in the heart of all the night life with Infusion Lounge and the Warfield just blocks away. If you are looking to buy tickets, I would suggest doing that sooner rather than later; tickets are going fast, especially at just $20 (including fees)!

  1. Virtual Riot
  • Where & When: EPR 21+ (San Francisco) April 19
  • Genre: electro house, drum & bass, dubstep, moombahton, future house
  • Tickets: http://eprlife.com/shop/
  • About: Virtual Riot, or more personally known as Valentin Brunn, is an electronic music producer and DJ from Germany. Signed in 2014 to Disciple Recordings, Virtual Riot has since then produced numerous singles, an album, and is to release an EP in 2017. Being added to the Ninja Nation Tour for Datsik this festival season brought out Valentin’s true talents, which I got to personally experience in Hollywood last month. To me, his style is very different than usual producers. He mixes electro house, drum & bass, neurofunk, and much more. If you’re looking to get a taste of this non-traditional artist, check out my personal favorite song of his ‘Never Let Me Go’.

  1. Louis Futon
  • Where & When: The Independent 21+ (San Francisco) April 22
  • Genre: EDM, trap, hip-hop
  • Tickets: http://www.ticketfly.com/event/1439861-louis-futon...
  • About: 23 year old Tyler Minford, aka Louis Futon, is a heavily hip-hop influenced trap and future bass producer from Philadelphia. Known for being the only producer to create official remixes for songs by hip-hop artists such as Logic, Future, G-Eazy, and Mos Def, Futon creates electronic tones intertwined with hip-hop drum and bass beats. Futon is the perfect producer for a bay area show like this, and especially at the intimate venue of the Independent. Unfortunately for the underage, it is a 21+ event, but for those of you old enough it will be a hyped up show for sure.

  1. Deadmau5 & Feed Me
  • Where & When: Fox Theater 18+ (Oakland) April 24, 25, & 26
  • Genre: progressive house, electronic, dubstep, electro house, drum & bass, trance
  • Tickets: http://live.deadmau5.com/tour-dates
  • About: Deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”) is a Canadian record producer and DJ who came out to the EDM scene in 2005 with his first album, however has been making the music released in 2005 since 1998 when he was just 17. Since then, Deadmau5 has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and in 2007 founded the independent record label Mau5trap (pronounced “mousetrap”). Now on tour, Deadmau5 has added the English produced and DJ FeedMe to his lineup, bringing in the drum & bass and dubstep beats. The duo of Deadmau5 and FeedMe is not one to be passed up on. With three nights for the show in Oakland there are many opportunities for fans to attend, but hurry tickets are going faster as the shows are upon us.

  1. REZZ
  • Where & When: 1015 Folsom 21+ (San Francisco) April 28
  • Genre: “alien house”, deep house, dubstep, electro house, trance
  • Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rezz-at-1015-folsom-t...
  • About: REZZ, or Isabelle Rezazadeh, is a 21 year old Canadian DJ who is sweeping the EDM community. REZZ’s style of music is unique in that it is a mix of dark, eery electronic and deep trap and house, creating her genre of “alien house”. But her music is not the sole reason to attend one of her shows. REZZ stage presence and visuals create a vortex of light and excitement that you cannot bear to look away from. With hand movements coinciding with every drop and her signature glowing goggles bouncing side to side, REZZ makes the show much more than just music. If I had to choose, this is the one show out of all in April that I would attend (and if I was 21). REZZ’s shows are an escape from reality, and even if just for a short amount of time, it is very therapeutic. Check out some of REZZ’s songs on her soundcloud to get a taste of what I am talking about, my favorite is 'Selector'.

The Post Thanksgiving Panic And Anxiety

It happens to all of us, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas the catch up with you.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.

Grey's Anatomy

Even Shonda Rhimes, winning creator and executive producer of the hit TV shows Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, and The Catch agrees that relationships with fictional characters are real. In her book, The Year of Yes she states, "I have spent more time with Meredith and Christina then many of my actual friends...When you watched TV, even spending a full hour with Christina once a week, you were likely spending more time with her then you spent with most people in your life. That relationship was real."

Going to the gym and working out on a daily basis (with breaks once in awhile) has been a great way for me to feel good about myself. It is 100% more than just looking good. Especially after starting college and having the stress and anxiety of tests, assignments, and just figuring out my future, the gym at my school has definitely been a place of relief for me and I have numerous reasons of why everyone should push themselves to get to the gym when they can.
