Fargo, North Dakota has been rated one of the drunkest cities in the United States and everyone has a favorite bar. In my opinion these are the top 5 bars downtown Fargo has to offer.
5. The Bomb Shelter
This bar is simply on the list for one reason: bomb shots. The Bomb Shelter is the first bar in Fargo to specialize in bomb shots (mixed drink that is made by dropping a small glass of one drink into a larger glass holding a different drink). It's a very unique and fun bar that is located underneath a strip club.
4. Empire Tavern
If you like your drinks strong this is the place to go. I love the "dive bar" feel and the Empire hits the nail on the head for that. If you're just looking to have a few strong drinks and play some darts this is the perfect bar downtown.
3. The Old Broadway
Right in the middle of the countdown is this "love it or hate it" bar. The club vibe isn't for everyone but if you are looking to dance this is one of the only bars downtown that you can do so at — which secures its place in my countdown. Make sure you've had a few drinks because you'll be waiting at least 10 minutes at the bar for a drink, luckily the bar has shotgirls so you won't go thirsty.
2. Dempsey's Irish Pub
A short while ago Dempsey's would not have made my list, but after their remodel adding more seating and space they have taken second place in my favorite downtown bars. Dempsey's occasionally has live bands and above the bar is a venue, The Aquarium, which holds live musical events.
1. Pickled Parrot
This bar definitely surpasses all others downtown. With a live band playing nearly every Friday and Saturday, the Pickled Parrot takes first place without a doubt. Nothing creates a better drinking atmosphere than live music and mason jars filled with your favorite beer for only $5. This is the perfect bar to end the night.
These are just a few of the great bars in downtown Fargo and there are many more great bars in Fargo if you expand your search from downtown. Happy bar hopping!
