Every one who lives in Arizona seems to complain that there is never anything to do. The suggestions always include: staying inside. Anything that doesn't include having air conditioning is usually out of the question (unless of course you are in the pool).
Well if you are ever bored and sitting at home wishing there was something, anything for that matter that you could be doing, here are some fun things I have enjoyed doing this summer with my friends!
1. Take a day trip to flagstaff.
It automatically gets 10-15 degrees cooler and there are so many cool hikes or lakes you can visit. You get out of the heat and up in the mountains, you even have the chance of seeing some wildlife and plants that are not a cactus or a coyote.
2. Go on a staycation.
It isn't too expensive to get a group of your good friends together and get a hotel room for a night or two. You can stay at hotels that have a nice lazy river or a spa if you are like me and are always looking to get pampered. Places like the Marriott or the Pointe are my personal favorites.
3. See a natural wonder of the world.
A lot of people seem to forget that we have our very own wonder of the world in our own backyards. Yes, I am talking about the Grand Canyon, but there is so much more then just driving up to see it, you can hike it, you can river raft it, you can even take donkey rides into it!
4. Take a trip down the Salt River.
This has got to be my favorite part of all of Arizona. It is so much fun to rent a tube and hop on the river. Float all the way down and go through some rough water is one of the best ways to spend your weekend!
5. Goldfield Ghost Town.
If you are into something a little more spooky taking a trip to the Superstition Mountains may be exactly what you need. You can stay in a haunted hotel and explore the town that many used to live in. Pan for gold, take a train ride, and see wild west history.
If you are just visiting Arizona or live here, these places are some of the best and most fun attractions to date! They're all relatively inexpensive, get you to get outside and do something, and allow you to stop all the stereotypes that there is "nothing" to do in Arizona.
