Amy Winehouse undoubtedly had one of the most iconic voices in the music industry. Not only was her sound unique, but she was one of the few artists that arguably sounded better live than on a recorded track. Her incredible combination of soul and a jazzy/R&B hybrid was certainly one-of-a-kind and will continue to live on while she rests peacefully.

In honor of her birthday coming up on September 14, let us all pay tribute to her unbelievable talent and take a listen to eight of her best songs.

1. Love is a Losing Game

Iconic line: "Self professed, profound, 'til the chips were down. Know you're a gambling man, love is a losing hand."

Though there are many versions of this song, the original demo is probably the best one. The raw quality makes the sound so authentic that you can feel the heartbreak behind the lyrics with each passing second.

2. Back to Black

Iconic line: "He left no time to regret, kept his lips wet, with his same old safe bet."

Getting your heart broken by someone you loved and trusted is never an easy bout to face. I feel like we've all been there, and going back to black as Amy would say is all a part of the process.

3. Body and Soul (with Tony Bennett)

Iconic line: "My life a wreck you're making, you know I'm yours for the taking. I'd gladly surrender myself to you, body and soul."

Amy's versatile style can make any genre sound amazing. Who would've thought that this pair would complement each other so well?

4. Wake Up Alone

Iconic line: "That silent sense of comfort that everyone gets just disappears soon as the sun sets."

One of the more intricately written songs, "Wake Up Alone" is a hauntingly beautiful confession that she tried to face – loving someone that is physically next to you doesn't necessarily mean that that person is there for you emotionally. The physical presence of a lover can still mean waking up alone.

5. Valerie

Iconic line: "Won't you come on over? Stop making a fool out of me. Why don't you come on over, Valerie?"

Saving my personal favorite for last, the live acoustic version of "Valerie" is truly the perfect song to showcase Amy's indescribable talent. Not to mention, the desire to link up with old flames is a feeling I'm sure many can relate to.

I bet you got chills just listening to her voice. From her unforgettable beehive hairdo and her fleeky winged eyeliner, she is definitely a face we will not soon forget. Happy birthday, Amy, you beautiful songbird, and may you rest in the sweetest peace.

Shout-out to my friend, Aldwin, for being the biggest Amy Winehouse fan I know and for offering song suggestions. This one is for you, friend.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
