Let’s take a trip down memory lane as I tell you the top 5 Hip Hop and R&B songs from the 2000’s.
I can confidently say I am an expert when it comes to 2000’s Hip Hop and R&B music. This is the music I remember listening to during my childhood, and, therefore, it will forever hold a special spot in my heart. For some of these songs, it has been 18 years since they were released and they are still just as appreciated today as they were when they were released.
*disclaimer: this is based on personal opinion; however, these are all bangers so there is simply no way to disagree.
Starting us off at #5 we have “Hot in Herre”
This song was released in 2002 by Nelly a classic hip-hop artist at the time. This song made the list because it has a good, catchy beat with easy sing-along lyrics. This allows you to become captivated and sing along halfway through the song even if you have never heard it before.
Next, at #4, we have “Promiscuous”
Released by Nelly in 2006, this song was an immediate hit and still is today. I cannot think of a better duet sing-along song! Riding in the car scream-singing one part while your best friend sings the other. And how could anyone ignore the lyric
man: “I want you on my team”
woman: “so does everyone else”.
Like the confidence that oozes from that statement was just enough to land it the #4 spot.
Spot #3 belongs to “It Wasn’t Me”
Shaggy released this classic in 2000 on the Hot Shot album. This song is set apart from the others on the list because of the Jamaican flair added by English-Jamaican singer Rikrok. This song combines smooth vocals with a great hip-hop beat that we can all appreciate.
Coming in at #2 is “Ms. Jackson”
Released in 2000 by Outkast, this song holds a special spot in my heart. I can remember being in the car with my dad when I was growing up listening to Outkast with him, and especially this song in particular. All I can say is this song will be a classic “Forever, forever, ever, forever, ever”!
And finally, #1 is “Ignition Remix”
After R. Kelly released this remix in 2003, it shot to the top of the charts and stayed there for much longer than anyone expected; however, that does not surprise me. The second this song starts playing you can’t help but nod your head and sway your shoulders to the beat. A permanent smile is plastered across my face every time I hear it while I sing every single word.
This concludes my personal top 5 Hip Hop and R&B songs from the 2000’s. Narrowing it down to simply 5 songs was way harder than I had expected. Personally, this music is so easy to listen to and that made it hard to pick and rank my favorites. As I am writing this I am listening to my 2000’s playlist, and there are so many great songs I left out. But thankfully with the nice Hip Hop beats, and smooth R&B lyrics this music genre will live on forever.
