I am a genuinely nice person, and I try to give everyone a chance, but there are some things that just irk me to no end. I am extremely observant, so when I notice some of these characteristics in a person, it is all I can focus on. Here are my top 5 Pet Peeves, in order of cringe level.
1. When people walk and don't pick up their feet.
Just thinking about this makes my blood pressure rise at an unsafe level. We are not in a marching band, but we are also not trying to generate electricity with the ground people. You don't need to pick up your feet so much that you're marching(although I would prefer it to not picking up your feet at all), you just need to pick your feet up off of the ground a little, so the sole's of your shoes are shredded like cheese. The sound is annoying, and watching it happen is just as bad. When people drag their sandals along the ground, and it makes a long sliding noise, my soul cringes. And please people, do not use the excuse that your shoes are too heavy to pick up, believe me they aren't that heavy. It doesn't take much effort, all you have to do is lift your feet. Do. Not. Drag. Your. Feet.
2. Incorrect Gramar on Publicity in Stores, and in Emails.
Just today, I went into Jersey Mike's and saw a sign that said, "sorry about this inconvenience, we will be taking $1 off there total order." THERE, yes it really said "there order". If you don't know what's wrong with this grammar, then you're part of the problem. The correct way to write this sentence is, "we will be taking $1 off their order." There is no excuse for this poor grammar, and the fact that the sign was approved to be hung up might be even worse. In chain Emails sent out to groups, I constantly see the misuse of "your" and "you're". Alright, let me explain. "You're" is the contraction of the words "you" and "are", and it means "you are" . Let's use it in a sentence, "You're a cheeky little monster." Good, that is correct. Now, this is very different from, "your", which indicates ownership and is used like this, "I saw the notebook in your hand." Using these words correctly is not difficult, so please do it.
3. When people say "libeary" and "pitchers".
Pronouncing words correctly is also not very difficult if you put in some effort, and take your time while speaking. This has bothered me basically as far back as I can remember, and it still makes my eye twitch. The word, "library", has two R's and both are pronounced. There are no silent R's in this word, it is not a trick, both R's are perfectly functioning. Please say both R's, don't discriminate. The word is pronounced like this, "lie-brair-ee". When I think of a, "libeary", I think of a bear lying, not of an establishment that houses books. Please, have mercy on my ears, pronounce both R's. Next up is the word, "pitchers." Nope, not the people who throw the ball to the batter in a baseball game, not the things you pour lemonade out of, but the things you take with a camera. Yes, "pictures", the letter C is pronounced the same way as it is in the word, "car." The letters do not jumble together to form a "tch" sound, they just don't. Pronounce words correctly, or don't say them, it's that simple.
4. When a website his out of something, and they leave it up. When a store is out of something, and leaves up the display.
Okay, here's the thing, I love shopping. I'm the kind of girl that always has hope that, "they'll have more in the back", when most stores don't even have a back. While online shopping I always find super cute clothes, and then when I click on them, it says they aren't available. So then, I get my hopes up, and I am let down. I'm not sure how hard it is to take down clothes that are out of stock, but I'm sure it is worth the grief it will save millions of online shoppers like me. The clothes are gone, then so is the picture of it, doesn't that make sense? The same thing happens in actual stores, because you see something really cute on a mannequin, and then you ask an employee where it is, and they say that it is out of stock. Why, just why? Why leave something up on a mannequin that I can no longer get? This is false advertising, and I am tired of being disappointed by discontinued items.
