"There's no positive role models for young girls!" cry angry mothers as they hastily point at various male superheroes, actors, football players, musicians... the list goes on.
Here are a few lesser known, female artists who are not only sending a positive message with their careers, but in their self-respected platforms-- whether it's music, television, or Youtube.
1. Juliette Reilly
Juliette Reilly is a YouTuber who's associated with another YouTuber, named McJuggerNuggets (AKA Jesse, her boyfriend). Aside from appearing in his series, playing his girlfriend, she also produces music. However, her music isn't just for the ending finale of a series her boyfriend creates-- her music tells tales of heroism. She sings of love, of spiritual growth, and the knowledge of getting beaten down or belittled by those who you thought you could trust, and being able to move on from there.
Her EP's Battlecry and the recently released I Am encompass those very elements. Aside from her music, Juliette takes to twitter and expresses a love for her fans and their well being, going as far as to stream and play songs for her fans, or even call them, and respond to them on social media.
2. Lights Bokan
A Canada-based artist who's music isn't as well known in the states as it is in her homeland, Lights is another wonderful influence. Her music carries an upbeat tune to it, thanks to the use of her synthesizer, giving her a techno-pop sound. Yet, her talents go beyond her trendy instrument; her vocals are beautiful when accompanied by acoustics, which is seen in various covers she's done over the years. To further this, her latest album, Midnight Machines utilizes not only the bare minimum of acoustics but strings as well.
Outside the realm of her music, Lights talks about her life and her views on life, as well as her own battle with being creative and writing music as well as managing to raise a family.
3. SuperMaryFace
Mary, better known to the Youtube world as "SuperMaryFace", is an Australian Youtuber who's passions include fashion, cosplay, spiders, snakes, makeup, and being kind. She refers to herself as a "spider-mum" and sees all her fans as "spiders"; she'll often try to respond to as many fans as she can, and give them the encouragement they need for whatever battle they may be facing. Content wise, Mary tries her best to be as real as she can, and express her feelings through vlogs, or just talks to her fans about life, mental health, being yourself, and stresses being kind to everyone.
Off of Youtube, her content remains very much positive and she gives her fans reminders to be strong and happy.
These are just three of many women out there who encompass what we, as women, want for the future generation-- a generation of strong women who can make something of themselves, but still love and be kind to the world around her.
