Everyone knows that January, February, and March are the worst months to get through—Christmas and New Year’s are over, but you still have to face the harsh weather conditions of the winter. Not to mention that even though it’s technically the “spring semester,” you freeze your ass off until mid-April. Bring on the dry skin and cracked lips! In order to combat the effect of the winter elements on your body, there are a few key things you need to add to your beauty regime.
1. Cleansing Oil
It sounds like a contradiction in of itself, and you think you’re going to break out as soon as you use it, but in fact, oil cleanser actually cleans your skin better than most other types of face wash; better yet, it doesn’t leave your face all dry and peely. As someone who suffers from skin that’s oil in some patches and dry in others, I can personally attest to the fact that cleansing oil has never made my skin break out, and it leaves it feeling more hydrated and smooth than usual. I use Ulta's No. 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Oil, pictured above. I wouldn’t recommend using it everyday, but swapping it out with your regular face wash once or twice a week is essential in the dry winter air.
2. Lip Balm Eggs
EOS is the brand that comes to my mind when I think of those adorable chapstick eggs that everyone has nowadays, so I’m assuming it probably had the idea first. However, it really doesn’t matter whether you use EOS or a knockoff brand, because they all basically do the same thing—hydrate your lips when they get all chapped and disgusting during winter. I love the egg shaped ones because they're cute, obviously, but also because you can toss them anywhere—your purse, your car, your bathroom drawer—and they’re a lot harder to lose than traditional tubes of lip balm.
3. Luxurious Shampoo
What I mean by luxurious is that you only need a drop of shampoo, and then conditioner, to effectively wash and moisturize your hair. I personally am a huge fan of It’s a 10 Miracle Silk Express Shampoo & Conditioner—it's an expensive set, but it smells amazing and it actually makes my hair feel like silk. Switching your normal shampoo for one with a richer, creamier formula is a good idea when the cold air starts making your hair feel brittle and dries out your ends. Just be careful not to use too much, or it’ll weigh your hair down and make it greasy more quickly!
