This past year has featured many great films. Whether is was Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory, Star Wars: Rogue One, Arrival, or the Jungle Book, there were many amazing movies across an assortment of genres.
These films, among others, were critically acclaimed and loved by audiences across the globe. The movies from this past year will always stand out to me, however next year's slate of films might be even more memorable.
Listed below are my top-20 most anticipated movies for 2017. Whether they turn out to be great films or not will be up for debate, but for right now I can not wait to sit in the theatre and take in these movies.
20. Pitch Perfect 3 (Friday, December 22nd)
- I remember seeing the first Pitch Perfect movie on an airplane heading to Ecuador. Despite being skeptical at first, by the end of my flight I was crying with laughter.
19 .The Fate of the Furious (Friday, April 14th)
- The eight film in the Fast and Furious franchise pits Dom (Vin Diesel) against the rest of his crew in a world-wide family affair.
18. The Lego Batman Movie (Friday, February 10th)
- What can be better than Legos and Batman in the same movie!?
17. Cars 3 (Friday, June 16th)
- The original Cars movie was an all-time classic, but unfortunately the sequel was not as good. Hopefully the franchise can rebound in this third installment.
16. Dunkirk (Friday, July 21st)
- Director Christopher Nolan and academy award winner Tom Hardy team up to tell the story of a mission during World War II to evacuate Allied forces from Dunkirk, France.
15. Kingsman: The Golden Circle (Friday, October 6th)
- I never saw the first Kingsman film, but the reviews on this action packed thriller were astounding. Actor Taron Egerton became a rising star after the first Kingsman film. Look for his fame to grow after the sequel.
14. Power Rangers (Friday, March 24th)
- The title says it all. Everyone as a child dressed up as a power ranger at least once. Seeing this dynamic team on the big screen is a dream. Hopefully Lionsgate Studios doesn't mess this up.
13. Despicable Me 3 (Friday, June 30th)
- The first two movies of this franchise have been excellent. I believe that the third adventure featuring Gru and his Minions will be even better.
12. Kong: Skull Island (Friday, March 10th)
- King Kong is back and bigger than ever! Legendary Entertainment is making a "monsters" cinematic universe is "Kong" will be the first monster featured in the series. Another monster that exists within this universe is found later down on this top-20 list.
11. The Mummy (Friday, June 9th)
- Tom Cruise is taking control of the Mummy franchise. After hearing Cruise scream in a falling plane in the first trailer, I was a little hesitant. However, seeing Sofia Boutella as the Egyptian Princess Ahmanet (featured in picture below) I was sold.
10. War for the Planet of the Apes (Friday, July 14th)
- Caesar can never seem to stay out of trouble. The leader of the apes once again has led his brethren into a conflict. Lets see if mankind can survive this battle.
9. Thor: Ragnarok (Friday, November 3rd)
- What's better than seeing Oden's Son Thor and the Incredible Hulk on a buddy road trip across the cosmos!? The third movie in the Thor franchise looks to be the biggest yet.
8. Logan (Friday, March 3rd)
- For sixteen years, Hugh Jackman has unleashed the claws and worked out to meet the physical persona of the famed X-Men character Wolverine. In 2017, Jackman will hit the big screen as a mutant for the last time. This film, which is rated R, will be the send off Jackman deserves.
7. Creed 2 (November, TBA)
- Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stalone are back to continue the story of Rocky Balboa and Adonis Johnson in this epic boxing sequel.
6. Beauty and the Beast (Friday, March 17th)
- One of the all-time classic Disney stories is being retold, only this time in live action. The wonderful Emma Watson portrays "Belle" in this princess story.
5. Wonder Woman (Friday, June 2nd)
- We have seen Superman and Batman battle on the big screen for decades. However, the holy trinity of the DC universe has been incomplete. It is time for Wonder Woman to make her presence known to the world. Gal Gadot will be charming and awe inspiring in this next chapter in the DC cinematic universe.
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Friday, May 5th)
- Starlord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot are back along with a host of other wild characters in James Gunn's sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy.
3. Spider-Man Homecoming (Friday, July 7th)
- After a spectacular debut in Captain America: Civil War, actor Tom Holland's rendition of Spider-Man has its own movie. This film will also feature Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man so that adds even more intrigue to this new addition to the Marvel cinematic universe.
2. Justice League (Friday, November 17th)
- THE JUSTICE LEAGUE! Yes Marvel has owned the comic book movie genre so far, but seeing Batman, Wonder Women, the Flash, and other classic DC super heroes team up is something fans everywhere have been yearning for.
1. Star Wars: Episode VIII (Friday, December 15th)
- WHO ARE REY'S PARENTS!? That is what Star Wars fans have been wondering ever since the ending of Episode 7. Epic space battles between the Resistance and the First Order, seeing the adorable BB-8, and of course seeing Luke Skywalker on the big screen will have everyone yearning to return to a Galaxy Far Far Away...
