No matter what age you are, it's safe to say we all like to have a good time. Whether that means chilling with friends in your dorm, or going to a dance party nearby, we all love to have fun no matter what. Of course, one thing is always necessary in those certain situations: good music. And by good music, we all know that I'm talking about music you can easily turn up to. It has to be a playlist that includes songs that everyone can sing along to and songs the make everyone feel good about themselves. These songs are timeless no matter how old or how new they are. Here's my top 15 songs that will always make you wanna turn up (in no particular order).
1. "Respect" - Aretha Franklin
Whether you were around for Aretha Franklin's reign as the Queen of Soul or not, this song will always bring out anybody's inner diva at any event. We all deserve respect and to sing about it just allows us to let everyone know exactly what we expect from others. We also get a small spelling lesson which never hurt anyone.
2. "Uptown Funk" - Bruno Mars
Was it overplayed when it first came out? Yes. Is it still overplayed? Absolutely. Whenever it comes on at any event, we all inwardly roll our eyes as if to say, "This song again?" BUT we all know it only takes a few lines from the smooth Bruno Mars to get us up and jamming out with our squad.
3. "Hollaback Girl" - Gwen Stefani
Just those first few beat drops at the beginning of the song get us fist pumping real hard, real fast. We all know the chants that Gwen Stefani taught us back in 2005 (It's hard to believe it was released just 10 years ago). But the beat and the bass of this song always get us hyped up, especially when we all start spelling "bananas" (I sang it as I was typing it) together.
4. "Dirty Little Secret" - The All-American Rejects
This hit is also 10 years old this year, but if you're like me, this was the ultimate song to fist-pump to back during our junior high dances. After awkwardly slow dancing with our dates, it was such a moment of relief to hear the guitars pumping in this song to get jumping with our friends.
5. "Wannabe" - Spice Girls
Whether you're a 90's kid or not, we all know how to let people know exactly what we want thanks to the Spice Girls. And if you never memorized the rap by Scary Spice, then you probably were never cool, to be honest.
6. "Bye Bye Bye" - 'N Sync
Taking it back to the 90's again with this classic. Let's face it, we all love this song. We all love dancing to this song. If it comes on at a gathering, it's inevitable to see a group of people doing all the choreography in perfect synchronization as if they've been preparing for this moment their entire lives.
7. "Single Ladies" - Beyonce
Do I really need to explain this one? It doesn't matter if you're a single lady or not (or even a lady at all), we all know you're gonna turn up real hard once it starts playing. Nobody can hide their love for this song. It may be a guilty pleasure for some, but that's okay. And let us never forget the flawlessness of the music video, people.
8. "Beat It" - Michael Jackson
The ultimate battle song becomes the ultimate turn up song at any get together. Michael Jackson is loved by many. It was only appropriate to make sure at least one of his many hits were included in this list, but I ultimately picked "Beat It" because of it's rock and roll and pop infused sound. And we've all dreamed of having a dance off to this song with that one guy we just can't stand.
9. "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" - Shania Twain
If you know me, you certainly could have predicted that I was going to include this song in this list. I grew up singing this song in the my car seat in the back of my mom's car. Whether you're a woman or not, that chorus gets our blood pumping from 0 to 100 real quick. I recently saw Shania Twain on her farewell Rock This Country Tour in Indianapolis and when those first chords were heard with flame throwers in sync, the crowd literally went insane. It was one of the best turn up moments of my life.
10. "Let It Rock" - Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil Wayne
When I started brainstorming ideas for songs that needed to be included in this list, my friends were by my side trying to help me. One of my friends started playing this song and my jaw dropped from all the memories of jamming out to this song. Needless to say, I had to add it to this list.
11. "Get This Party Started" - P!nk
Maybe I should have mentioned this one towards the beginning of the list, but it's still important to mention it at all. This song was and still is a hit and kind of what most of us know P!nk for. Looking back on the times and this video, it's amazing to see the fashion and styles that happened during the turn of the century. This song is so appropriate for our time period.
12. "Rock And Roll All Night" - KISS
I think the main thing to mention is that we all have our intentions of rocking and rolling all night and partying everyday. It's enticing, and if you're lucky, if you've gotten to experience a party like that at some point in your life. Was this song played during your experience? No? Well it should have been.
13. "Just Dance" - Lady Gaga
We're gonna take it back to my junior high days once more with this huge hit from Lady Gaga. I know for me and for most people, "Just Dance" is how we were introduced to the phenomenon that is Lady Gaga and to all of her electro-pop turn up jams. This one is the best to just dance to (if you know what I'm saying).
14. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen
This one may not be the perfect party song, but we all know that when this song comes on in the car, your squad will instantaneously break out into chorus singing this classic 80's hit. And we all know that everyone is gonna try to get that one high note.
15. "Worth It" - Fifth Harmony ft. Kid Ink
This one is the newest song on the list being released just this year. While it's fairly new, it's currently 19 on Billboard's The Hot 100. It's easily Fifth Harmony's most successful single thus far and for a good reason. With its middle eastern sounding influence and it's bouncing beat, it really does a good job of getting us on our feet to dance all night long.
So there you go: 15 songs that you can turn up to no matter what. Now go out in the world, my children. Be safe, be kind, and always be sure to have a blast!
