The end of October is quickly approaching, and with that comes the annual Halloween movie marathons on just about every channel. If you're planning to have a scary movie date or a Halloween-themed party, a classic Halloween movie is a must. There's nothing better than enjoying some freshly baked pumpkin spice cookies and getting spooked on a fall night. Below are several options to choose from when deciding on the perfect Halloween movie.

1. "Hocus Pocus" (1993)

Who doesn't love a Hocus Pocus filled Halloween? The Sanderson sisters have returned after 300 years of silence and have awakened to the 21st century. Max Dennison, his little sister Dani and their new friend, Allison explore an abandoned house and accidentally release the witches. They have to find a way to steal the spellbook and prevent the sisters from becoming immortal.

2. "Halloween" (1978)

If you're into more of a thriller with plenty of action, "Halloween" is the perfect fit for you. Six-year-old Michael Myers murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. Now, at age 21, Michael Myers escapes Smith's Grove and returns to his small home town of Haddonfield, Illinois where he will search for his next victims.

3. "Double, Double, Toil and Trouble" (1993)

One of my favorite childhood movies by far, "Double, Double, Toil and Trouble" is a family Halloween classic. The Olsen twins try to deceive an evil aunt out of a magic moonstone in order to save their family home.

4. "Casper" (1995)

Yet another family classic, "Casper" is the perfect choice for a family movie night this October. Follow Casper, a young friendly ghost, in his many haunting adventures.

5. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)

Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" takes a different approach for a typical Halloween movie and incorporates Christmas as well. Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town is bored with the typical Halloween rituals and he takes an interest in the idea of Christmas and attempts to celebrate Christmas instead of Halloween.

6. "Scream" (1996)

The original "Scream" has always been a Halloween classic. A ghostfaced killer targets teenagers in a small town and a group of friends set out to find the murderer.

7. "Halloweentown" (1998)

A Disney Channel Halloween classic, "Halloweentown" features three siblings who aren't allowed to celebrate Halloween. They run away with their Halloween-obsessed grandmother to her hometown. They find out that she's from Halloweentown and that she's a witch with magical powers.

8. "Don't Look Under the Bed" (1999)

If spooky but humorous movies are your preference, this Halloween classic is just for you. "Don't Look Under the Bed" focuses on a young girl who calls on her brother's imaginary friend to get rid of the boogeyman who has framed her for his pranks.

9. "The Addams Family" (1991)

"The Addams Family" features a con artist who claims to be the missing brother of Gomez Addams arrives at the Addams home. Things start to get suspicious when Fester can't seem to recall anything about his brother or his own life. Find out what happens within this mysterious and twisted family.

10. "Beetlejuice" (1988)

Throughout this unique movie, an unwanted spirit, Beetlejuice is attracted to the previous home of the Maitlands who died in a car accident but end up coming back to haunt their country residence. The Deetzes, a family that bought the property were unmoved by the hauntings of the Maitlands. Find out how Beetlejuice adds to the mix!

11. "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" (1966)

This classic animated television special based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz is the perfect family-oriented Halloween movie.

12. "Young Frankenstein" (1974)

Find out what adventures Dr. Frederick Frankenstein will experience when he inherits his infamous grandfather's estate and continues his experiments.

13. "The Monster Squad" (1987)

Members of a monster fan club set out to meet Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, the Mummy and Gill Man.

14. "The Munsters" (1964)

Discover the variety of well... different family members that make up "The Munsters" in this Halloween classic.

15. "Sleepy Hollow" (1999)

Ichabad Crane sets out on a mission to Sleepy Hollow to investigate multiple deaths by the Headless Horseman. Watch to find out what happens throughout this eery but historical spinoff.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
