The Top 12 Songs Of "Steven Universe"
Cartoon Network

"Steven Universe" is a "children's cartoon" that airs on Cartoon Network. In its infancy, it seemed to have no direct plot and no goal, and was just a fun show with lots of bright colors. Children could relate to Steven due to his young enthusiasm. One could even argue that "Steven Universe" could be used as a learning tool to teach children the basic colors of gems! I began watching "Steven Universe" after a friend recommended it to me, and I've never been against watching a children's show. I was intrigued by everything I mentioned before, from the jokes to the art style and the "plot." Soon, it became more than I ever hoped for it to be. "Steven Universe" became an extremely diverse show, with a ton of extremely relatable characters and even songs. Good songs. It went from being something I watch every now and then to something I get extremely excited for and even more emotional about. As someone who loves music, "Steven Universe" has captivated me for a long time. Here are my top 12 songs from "Steven Universe" (in a somewhat particular order).

Warning: This list may contain spoilers up to Season Three! I will assume that you've seen the show or just want to hear the songs at this point!

12. "Full Disclosure"

"Full Disclosure" is an excellent song that really provides extra information about Connie and Steven's relationship. Before this song, you can definitely tell there's something going on emotionally between them, but Steven doesn't directly say or show us something that confirms it. "Full Disclosure" shows him with really cute, candid pictures of Connie on his phone as he laments about how he doesn't want her to get hurt. Steven tries to ignore her concerned calls because he doesn't want to risk losing someone who he loves. The creators (to my knowledge) haven't stated they are in love, but it's very apparent to me. It highlights that you shouldn't hide things from others because even though you think you're protecting them, you're just making them worry even more than necessary. This song is a good way to show what Steven is thinking about without directly saying it or giving us a dumb flashback episode.

It also makes a great ringtone.

11. "Steven Universe Theme" [Extended]

This song was absolutely genius when it came out. It was shown as a surprise at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) and the crowd went absolutely wild. Firstly, this song tied the original show theme song and the updated theme song together into one long song, and gave all 4 of the main characters an expository solo about their #1 reason why they fight for earth. Secondly, it gave us our very first official look at one of the biggest and baddest villains in the entire show. Fans (myself included) had been speculating about who Yellow Diamond was, and her near-full face reveal sent everyone stark raving mad!

10. "Let Me Drive My Van Into Your Heart"

I feel this song, sung by Greg Universe, is extremely underrated by the fanbase. This song is shared between father and son, and Steven really enjoys it. No, the vocals aren't "perfect" but that's part of what I love about this show. Your parents probably don't have perfect singing voices, but you might still like to listen to them. Besides that, the lyrics are very cute and the beat is awfully catchy! It gives us a little insight into the fact that Greg has always been a lover, and a little cheesy. It's something that Rose loved about him.

9. "Love Like You"

(The vocals begin at 0:52.)

This is an awfully sweet love song. Whenever I hear it, I can't help but think of my own boyfriend. It's the ending theme, and can be applied to multiple couples throughout the show. It's such a nice song, with great vocals and when you put all of the versions together, it sounds absolutely wonderful!

8. "What Can I Do For You?"

This song has a lot to say for itself. It shows Greg and Rose's relationship in it's infancy, before he understood a lot about the Crystal Gems. Rose, at this point, doesn't quite understand human emotions. You can see Greg get visibly confused and maybe even a little hurt by the things she sings- but it doesn't make her bad. She just doesn't get his emotions because they're literally alien to each other. It also tells us a lot about Pearl's feelings (mainly jealousy) towards Greg and Rose. Rose thought fusing would be an extremely flashy and cool thing for Greg and his video, but Pearl did it to try to prove to Greg how she was better than him. There were a lot of very heated emotions in this song that you can only get from watching along.

7. "Strong In The Real Way"

When I originally watched this episode, I felt so awful for Pearl. She wanted nothing more than to teach Steven what his mother had passed onto her. Pearl was taught that even though she was small, she could be strong emotionally. Steven is an impressionable young man, and this can cause trouble at times. Pearl just wants to show him what it means to be brave and calculated. Steven just wanted to be inspirational and help the people around him, so he didn't quite get where Pearl was coming from.

6. "Giant Woman"

"Giant Woman" was a great song simply because of Steven's intentions. Pearl and Amethyst didn't want to resolve their own conflict, but Steven stayed optimistic! This song, while short, paired with the episode, highlights that sometimes you absolutely have to work together sometimes, for the greater good. Everything about this episode was absolutely breathtaking and it really developed Pearl and Amethyst, making their bond stronger than it had been in a very long time.

5. "Something Entirely New"

I adore this song because, again, it's not perfect. Love isn't perfect, and sometimes we don't find it in the places we think we might. It chooses it's "victims" without mercy and at total random at times. Together, Sapphire and Ruby learn that they love each other and they can count on the other gem to be there- always. The concept of fusion is truly beautiful, because it's the best way to explain how love feels. Being in love feels like being a new person, in solidarity with your partner.

4. "Do It For Her"

"Do It For Her" teaches the viewers a lot of things about the show and how a relationship should work. Love and emotions are a central theme of Steven Universe. At first, this song is very courageous and awesome because Connie is learning to sword fight to help Steven in battle. By the end of the song, Pearl has brought Connie to a state where she would willingly give her life without a second thought, all on Steven's behalf -- just like Pearl would have done for Rose. Pearl's love was nearly blind for Rose, and this song teaches us that it's dangerous to be like that. Steven has to bring Connie to her senses so that he can stress that he wants a healthy relationship with her. He does not want her to think she is lesser than him, but rather, that they are equals.

3. "Tower of Mistakes"

I remember being so extremely excited when I heard "Tower of Mistakes" the first time. I burst into tears, because I could really relate to Amethyst. It was her first song that was entirely by herself, and it showed that she actually has a gorgeous voice. Her sadness is really outspoken, because she realizes that she messed up big time. She feels so helpless and so sorry for what she'd done to Garnet. Amethyst never meant to hurt Garnet, and all she wants is to fix things. It is hands down one of my favorite songs in the entire show, without a single doubt.

2. "Stronger Than You"

We all saw this one coming. "Stronger Than You," sung by Estelle, is absolutely amazing. This song reinforces that love can make you strong, and that true love can't be broken apart by the little things. When this episode aired, I was an absolute mess of tears. It absolutely speaks for itself. Love will always be stronger and more pure than hate and violence.

1. "It's Over, Isn't It?"

I bet you didn't see this one coming! I've seen a lot of hate for this song, but it really hit a sweet spot with me. I adore Broadway style music, and this was definitely inspired by Broadway -- it even takes place in "Empire City."

Greg and Pearl have always had a complicated relationship due to the fact that they both loved Rose. Pearl finally expresses openly that she can't seem to move on from the loss of Rose. She does not seem to resent Greg, but rather, she resents Rose's choice. While she loves Steven because he is all she has left of Rose, you can tell she obviously hurts when he shows his mother's qualities. He is a lasting reminder that Rose chose Greg and not her. Pearl has a lot to tell us, and while it seems her healing process has finally begun, she still has a lot of work to do. She spent thousands of years with Rose and it will take her a very long time to get used to her new emotions.

I just barely scratched the surface of these songs. Do you agree with my choices? Tell us your favorite songs in the comments, and I wish you happy watching!

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
