Here are my favorite songs to listen to when I want to relax or decompress from a stressful finals week. The majority of the selections are sub-genres of EDM, but there are a few songs that aren't. I hope you are able to find something that you can enjoy and vibe-out to.
1. Lorde – Tennis Court (Flume Remix)
If you are a fan of the original song by Lorde, I am sure you will be a fan of this one, as well. Flume's Downtempo remix of this song is something else. The intro is what really gets me. It has such a celestial feel in the very beginning, followed by the peppy vocals Lorde is known for. The drop to this song offers a nice contrast to the build up, and will surely have you moving.
2. Porter Robinson – Divinity (ODESZA Remix)
I am a huge fan of ODESZA and the genre of Indietronica. This song is the perfect blend of acoustic instruments and electronic synthesizers. The vocals of this song pair beautifully with the rich synths and drum beat of the song. This song is extremely ambient, and is sure to help you decompress and relax.
3. Sam Feldt – Show Me Love (EDX’s Indian Summer Remix)
This song is easily in my top 10 most-listened-to songs. It starts off very melodic and simple, with Sam Feldt's catchy vocals dominating the majority of the intro. The climax of the song is very lively and is a pretty typical Deep House drop. It will definitely have you bobbing your head, whether you like it or not.
4. Wes Walker & Dyl – Jordan Belfort
First and foremost, I would like to give a shout-out to my roommate for showing me this catchy song. I'm glad he showed me this song, but now I can't stop saying Jordan Belfort. This song has peppy piano accompanied by some rap vocals. This song reminds me a lot of the song "I Love College."
5. Getter – Weekend (Feat. Tree)
A really chill song that talks about the weekend and how you should look forward to it. This song is drastically different from the Getter's style of music, which is Dubstep. It is an acoustic song accompanied by rap vocals.
6. Kendrick Lamar – King Kunta
This song is for all my Kendrick fans out there. In this song, Kendrick is essentially calling out all the people who don't think he should be at the top of the rap game. This is one of many Kendrick songs that prove that he is at the top of the rap game.
These two guys are not very well known, but they deserve to be. All of their music is meant to make you sit back, relax, and not have a single worry in the world. If you like this song, be sure to check out their Youtube channel.
This song is what Deadmau5 is all about. His music always starts of very repetitive, followed by the addition of various instruments and synths. His music isn't always meant to be danced to. This trance like song will take you on a six minute journey of pure bliss.
9. Duke Dumont – Need U 100% (KREAM Remix)
This song is very comparable to the Sam Feldt song above. This song has vocal chops, which is the technique of taking vocals, "chopping" them up, and arranging those vocal snippets in a musical way. The vocals/vocal chops of the song go very well with the four-on-the-floor tempo of the song.
The Chainsmokers are a duo that is well know for their remixes of popular songs, as well as their electro-pop singles. This song is as pop as it gets, which is all right. The vocals are very relaxing, and the song as a whole has a very cool vibe to it. If you are a fan of pop, this song will surely tailor to your interests.
Reggae is my favorite genre of music to listen to during the summer. It is genre of choice when my family and I are at our summer home. This song always reminds me of the times I would watch the sunset while I fished. If this song doesn't have you jammin', i'm not sure what will.
This concludes my top 11 chill songs to listen to. I sincerely hope you found something you like in this list of songs. Even if we don't have the same musical tastes, there is surely a flavor of music out there that will help you relieve some of your every day stress.
