10 Underrated Horror Movies

As the cooler weather approaches, you're probably more likely to snuggle up inside and watch a movie than anything else. There's nothing better than psycho killers to get your dream girl to sit close to you on your first date. If you're at a loss for what to watch, here are some solidly underrated flicks (in no particular order) that need some love and appreciation. So grab your blankies and candy of choice, and prepare to be scared.

1. Would You Rather

I found this gem when I was scouring Netflix for a good scare and was pleasantly surprised. If you liked the twisted games that were played in Saw, then you will enjoy the equally disturbing antics of Would You Rather. Oh rich people, always killing people for fun.

2. Horns

My boyfriend introduced me to Horns and at first I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but I agreed to watch it because it has my homeboy Daniel Radcliffe as the main character. Radcliffe receives supernatural powers that differ greatly from his role as Harry Potter, and seeks out his girlfriend’s killer.

3. Dead Silence

Did anyone say…dummies? Oh, well you should have, because this film includes some iconically creepy dolls. This film is sure to keep you on your toes, and the twist at the ending will certainly surprise you.

4. Evil Dead

Whether you watch the original or the remake, you can’t miss with this one. Creepy books and friends in the woods…where could they go wrong? This movie is the gift that keeps on giving, because whenever you think it’s over, something new and horrifying pops up.

5. Grave Encounters

I got to encounter this treat for the first time with my best friend and her older brother. The movie is shot found footage style and details an endeavor to discover evidence of paranormal activity in Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital. Grab some popcorn and your best pal, because you’re in for a treat.

6. Angels and Demons

This is probably one of my favorite movies to date, and I was surprised by how few people in my life have seen it. This thriller depicts some gruesome murders that are backed by a fantastic storyline, as symbolist Robert Langdon works to prevent a terrorist attack on the Vatican.

7. Wrong Turn

What’s a horror movie list without cannibals? Wrong Turn takes you back into the woods with your friends (so I guess camping with your friends really isn’t the best vacation…) while inbred mountain men who, not unlike the average player, only want them for their bodies hunt them down.

8. Stonehearst Asylum

Mental Asylums are some of my favorite horror movie plotlines, and Stonehearst Asylum does not fail to hold a place in my heart. Dr. Edward Newgate quickly finds out that not everything is as it seems, and finds his colleagues treatment of the patients to be less than humane.

9. House At The End Of The Street

One of the selling points for me when the movie came out was that the love of my life, Jennifer Lawrence, is the main character. The movie has a compelling plotline and a surprise twist that alone is enough of a reason to stick it out.

10. The Cabin In The Woods

This movie is a fan favorite among my friends. Yes, we know it’s a horror comedy, but I still think that it should find a place on this list due to how many times we have seen it. It’s one of those movies that you need to know is not intended to be taken as a serious horror flick, but is enjoyable from start to finish.

April Ludgate
NBC Universal

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
