Top 10 Underrated Artists

Who doesn't love listening to music? Many students usually listen to music to study so an article on new music to listen to should be great right?! I may be a little biased on my favorite underrated artists but this list is based on the artist having less than 500,000 Spotify listeners per month. Enjoy!

10. Junior Prom: 43,594 listeners

Think Green Day but not as punk rock. Junior Prom is a small indie rock band. Their newest release "You, Me & Joe Strummer" makes you want to dance around and play an air guitar. Everyone needs to rock out at one point!

9. The Floozies: 64,682 listeners

You've probably never heard of them but think of their music as Earth, Wind & Fire meets Daft Punk. I usually listen to them while I'm working out and I can't resist putting a little boogie in my work out!

8. Sports: 68,850 listeners

First off, the picture above is their header photo on their website, they obviously have a great sense of humor! Many of their songs are the types where you just want to lay down and vibe to. If you need to relax and do some homework, listen to "You Are The Right One" by Sports!

7. Cider Sky: 117,117 listeners

Do you like Oh Wonder? If yes, you would love Cider Sky! They are a male and female duo who has some of the best "feel-good" songs. Their song "Northern Lights" was on the soundtrack for Breaking Dawn. Before you groan about that, the Twilight series did have some of the best soundtracks around!

6. Prelow: 118,990 listeners

I actually had no idea who these guys were 2 years ago, but they opened for Skizzy Mars and I fell in love. The music they have created gives off a groovy, fun, and soothing feeling. This is definitely a good band to set the mood.

5. Olivver the Kid: 174,287 listeners

Olivver the Kid reminds me of another version of Prelow (mentioned above.) His music varies from calming to upbeat. A great song by him is "Lucy (Hurt People Hurt People)" Skizzy Mars (who will be mentioned later) even has a remix to it!

4. Panama Wedding: 218,632 listeners

"Feels Like Summer" by Panama Wedding was the ultimate summer song. Windows down, hair blowing, and laughing with friends. That's who they are. Not to mention they were at Lollapalooza this past summer! Great vibes from them and the crowd!

3. Devon Baldwin: 314,988 listeners

Have you heard the song "Let's Get Lost" or "Mad" or by G-Eazy? It's Devon Baldwin's vocals during the chorus! Although I found out about her through knowing G-Eazy, she recently started releasing her own songs that are absolutely marvelous. She has an angelic voice! Grab some tissues and be prepared to cry.

2. Louis Futon: 420,773 listeners

As the EDM industry is blowing up, so is Louis Futon! His beats has a chill undertone and amazing drops. His most popular (and my favorite) song is "Wasted On You" which I can't stop listening to!

1. Skizzy Mars: 434,034 listeners

Skizzy Mars. What a guy. His raps are unique to him; His remixes are actual remixes. Not just adding a verse like many artists do. A couple years ago he had a concert in Iowa City, which of course I attended, and had the BEST time of my life there. If you like rap and fun beats, listen to Skizzy!!

Different genres of music can be liked by anyone. Some days you need to chill, other days you need to rave it out! This list has a wide range of artists and hopefully one of them will become your favorite!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
