1. Take a hike, in Stone Park

There are some pretty great spots to go hiking or camping in our very own State Stone Park. The nature preserve is full of adventure, and of course, wild furry creatures that we all love. There are multiple campground sites and trails that any outdoors men wouldn't mind to explore. Stone park even has a beautiful place to grill out and have a picnic. Check out Turtle Pond and enjoy the rest of your day outside.

2. Catch a show

Our very own Sioux City Community theater and our Shot in the Dark theater always has something up their sleeve. You can go catch a live show and watch local talent in stage. From American Idiot, to Heather's, to Shrek the musical, they've got it all at a reasonable price.

3. Grab a bite to eat at any of our local restaurants.

We have a fun variety of restaurants that are only in Sioux City or in the surrounding tri-state area. Go grab a good cup of coffee at either Jitters (they have the best donuts) or Stone Bru. Or, if you're looking to have lunch somewhere check out our new Blue Cafe. They have live music and some pretty good food. Try the Kale chips!

4. Buy some fresh fruits and vegetables at the Farmers Market

Every Wednesday and Saturday morning the farmers market is set up next to the Tyson Events Center. Local farmers and growers come to sell us some of their delicious fresh produce. But fruits and veggies aren't the only things you can buy. You can also get some bottles of local honey, bags of local coffee, and fun accessories made by the people of Sioux City. Try a cup of Rosie's cold brew coffee. It is literally to die for. oh, and if they're there, The Birds and the Bees honey is super yummy.

5. Go to Bacon Creek

Bacon Creek has a variety of small parks, a dog park, and a trail that loops around the creek. It's a fun place to go out on the boat, fish, take a walk, have a small get together, or to take your dog out to socialize with other dogs. You can grab some bratwurst, some buns, a six pack, and watch your kids play at the park while you grill out dinner.

6. If they're in town, go to the Carnival

From June 1st-10th Summer fest is happening in Sioux city and you can go to the carnival! Go ride some super fun and scary rides and just have fun. You can even try to impress your date by winning them a giant stuffed animal at any of their door prize games.

7. Have a Fire by the river

There are a few spots in Sioux City where you can find small beaches next to the river. You can set up a fire and go fishing on a warm summer night. It's really a fun time to hangout with friends and loved ones. It's a popular thing to do on the fourth of July. Go grab some fire works and have a show and a fire.

8. Go see a Movie in the Park

Take your family out, or take a few friends, to see free movies in the park. They movies are set in the bandshell at Grandview Park. Take a blanket, some snacks, and a buddy. They start June 18th and run on select Saturday nights til August 13th.

9. Explore Downtown

Though our downtown may be on the smaller side we do have a lot to offer. We have some fun little antique stores, game stores, and restaurants. Check out the Whistler shop and buy a few things with a little bit of history attached to them, grab a bite to eat at one of our local Italian restaurants, Trattoria Fresco, or go listen to some live music at Vangarde Arts.

10. Go to Saturday in the Park

Every fourth of July weekend we have a free music festival. Artists come to preform in the bandshell and there are a ton of little kiosks waiting for you to go and buy something cool. Every kiosk is rented out by local or traveling artists who are show casing their very own hand made items. This year the Hard Rock is setting the stage with some good music and the people of Sioux city are bringing the good vibes and some pretty good food.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
