Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time. And while he might not have such a trademark style or character as his contemporaries Scorsese, Coppola, or Kubrick, his repertoire speaks for itself.
Here is a list of my top ten favorite films by my personal favorite film director, Steven Spielberg.
10. Hook
Most movie critics would vomit at the sight of this film on a top ten list. But I absolutely love this film. Very sentimental and important to my literature and cinematic childhood.
9. Minority Report
This is a less known Spielberg masterpiece starring Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell in this mind-twining sci-fi picture.
8. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
This movie is iconic and very influential of all sci-fi flick. Love it.
7. Catch Me if You Can
Leo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Amy Adams, Martin Sheen, and others star in this incredible account of the young con-artist Frank Abagnale, Jr..
6. Saving Private Ryan
This is one of the best and more authentic encounters of a war on film in the history of cinema. Incredible.
5. Jurassic Park
The special effects in this film were a game changer for blockbuster action films. It not only brought dinosaurs to life on screen, but created a platform for special effects to become what they are today.
4. E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial
Another special effects game changer, this is one of my favorite family movies of all time, as well as one of my favorite scores of all time.
3. Jaws
This movie defined the summer action film and did so with such artistry that it brought one of the most influential filmmakers of all time to stardom.
2. Schindler's List
If you haven't seen it, watch it. Now. Bring tissues.
1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The intro to this franchise defined Harrison Ford's career, and with George Lucas and John Williams, Spielberg created one of the most memorable movie characters of all time.
