When I was 5 years old, my dad and I were hanging out in our living room while my mom was at work. After watching TV for a while, he fell asleep and not long after "The Shining" came on. When my mom got home from work, I immediately quoted, "Here's Johnny!" and needless to say she was not happy. This is my first memory of loving horror movies and my family and I still laugh about it today. There are too many amazing horror movies to count, so I compiled this list of my top 10 that you should watch if you haven't already:
10. Child's Play (1988)
I love the Chucky franchise. I never understood how he could kill people, though... Just kick him, he's a doll!
9. The Babadook (2014)
Not one of the classics but still creepy as hell.
8. 30 Days of Night (2007)
Is it weird that I think Marlow is cute?
7. Leprechaun (1993)
I love the Leprechaun. I think I could befriend him.
6. The Shining (1980)
I obviously had to put the first horror movie I ever watched on this list. You really have to watch this one a few times to understand it at least a little.
5. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie. There are so many different aspects of the film that it will never get old.
4. The Grudge (2004)
I haven't seen this movie for a while but it was also one of my favorites as a kid. I had to sleep with all the lights on for a week after the first time I saw it, but I still enjoyed it.
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
I love Freddy Krueger. Granted he's a figment of teenager's imaginations and murders them while they're asleep, causing them to stay up for days and become sleep deprived, but he's still awesome.
2. The Exorcist (1973)
I always loved this movie. The book is really good, too. William Peter Blatty really knew what he was doing. It's scary as hell today, imagine what it must have been like 45 years ago when it first came out?!
Honorable Mention: Sharknado (2013)
So bad that it's scary.
1. It (1990)
One of my favorite horror movies of all time. I remember watching this as a really young kid and telling myself not to be afraid because Nigel Thornberry (Tim Curry) was the clown. I love this movie so much and it's way better than the 2017 version, yeah I said it. Bill Skarsgård is great but he's no Tim Curry. I watch this movie probably once a month, no lie. It's an absolute classic. Love you, Pennywise!
