That You HAVE to Watch

Top 10 Romantic Comedies Anyone Will Enjoy

I'm not saying that I am a total pro at rom-coms, but I do have a reputation. Since romantic comedy is my all time favorite movie genre, I guess this would really be a list of my favorite movies, so here we go! (Disclaimer: this is in no particular order because who the heck could choose a favorite?!) The list of rom coms you just HAVE to watch:

1. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTVafG4_CaY

Besides having a killer soundtrack, this movie is a classic. It follows two people through different points in their life when they run into each other, and how their relationship develops. Meg Ryan looks stunning throughout, and Billy Crystal is a quirky, yet perfect cast for this film. It's almost hard to tell this movie is 30 years old!

2. Love, Rosie (2014)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zL3YJKygd4

This one also follows a friendship, but in a way where the two characters come across many obstacles that prevent them from being together, from youth all the way to their thirties. Lily Collins and Sam Claflin have chemistry like no other, and this really shows through in the film. It's a sweet British movie, and can currently be found on U.S. Netflix!

3. Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYPK3jPZkYI

Another British film, this follows thirty-something-year-old Bridget Jones as she navigates her relationship with herself and with two other men. This is definitely one of those movies you watch to feel better about your life, but it is a great laugh, and has two sequels as well.

4. Love Actually (2003)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOS-HMiVejo

Okay… yes, another British rom com. I really like British people. And Christmas. So if you do as well, this movie is perfect for you! It is similar to Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, where it follows multiple stories at once, with characters whose lives intertwine. It's a great watch around the holiday season when you cozy up with a blanket and some hot cocoa! It also has a ton of notable actors (too many to name!).

5. The Holiday (2006)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDi5zH18vxU

With such notable actors (Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law), it is hard not to love this movie. Two women decide to swap houses, one from the U.K. and the other from the U.S. Both fall for men in the other location, with different twists and turns. Definitely a sweet film!

6. 50 First Dates (2004)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_2AbjYeSMI

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have both starred in many films together, but this by far is my favorite that they have done. It is about a women with memory loss, who cannot remember anything at the beginning of each day. This is definitely high on the comedy scale, so if you enjoy Adam Sandler, check it out!

7. 27 Dresses (2008)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV1-pePln_I

Katherine Heigl is a stunner in this film, which is comical with her abundant amount of bridesmaid dresses. Her sister steals a man she is head over heels in love with, making the whole movie a struggle between Katherine's character and her character's sister. She also meets another man along the way, so watch to see what plays out!

8. Pretty Woman (1990)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EBAVoN8L_U

An all-time Julia Roberts classic, this one's a bit more controversial, with a man hiring a prostitute as his escort for different business and social affairs. I enjoy this one because of the transformation and dynamic relationship that takes place. It's definitely one of those classics that everyone should see!

9. The Princess Bride (1987)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNNUcHRiPS8

Speaking of classics everyone should see, this is THE absolute must see movie. It is like the romantic version of Monty Python, with adventure and fantasy, but on the more family-friendly side. If you are going to watch any movie on this list, I would suggest this one, because it is a movie so many people know (and possibly my favorite on the list!).

10. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XcLVQCDtbM

The oldest of this list, this movie is timeless in its presence. Audrey Hepburn mastered her role as the NYC socialite Holly Golightly, who has to overcome her past when a new man comes into her life. I was honestly surprised how much I enjoyed this film the first time I watched it, so I would highly recommend!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
