Top 10 Restaurants Unique To Staten Island

Staten Island has a culture unlike any other New York borough. Yes, you can argue each borough has it's own special, unique, weird, neat, etc., qualities. But I'm not talking about Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan or Brooklyn, I'm talking about Staten Island. It's a whole lot cooler than the rep it's been given, and it's in need of some hard-core redemption. "Why is it a lot cooler," you may ask, well let me tell you why in one word.

Food.

Staten Island's food game is unreal. It has cultivated the some of the best NY restaurants I have yet to taste. They are all one of a kind, and they all make my taste buds explode.

Marie's Gourmet

Located on Victory Boulevard in the North Shore, Marie's is home to the dankest Italian cuisine. I suggest devouring their baked "galamad" (calamari) and make sure to ask for an extra side of marinara sauce... so you can drink it.

Royal Crown

One ingredient that will change your life... their balsamic glaze. This small bakery delivers a home-run on anything you order, thanks to the balsamic. I suggest a hero with baked chicken cutlet and "motzarell" (mozzarella), or my personal go-to, the house salad.

Dominick's

Located in New Dorp across from my favorite yoga studio, this is probably my favorite restaurant on the Island because of its Heaven-sent paleo menu. Of course, non-paleo dishes are offered, but I adore the restaurant for its paleo bread and cookies.

French Tart

Want a little taste of Europe? Then head on over to French Tart, also in New Dorp, you will experience the best croissant known to man. The perfected fluffiness paired with homemade jam and butter is key to having an orgasmic start to any day.

Just Eat Better

So, this place advertises itself as being "healthy," but it's really not. However, it's wonderful for the sake of comfort-food. It has several locations, all of which offer delivery. I suggest the Spring Salad, or the banana and peanut butter tortilla wrap.

Pho Mac

Craving something a little more oriental? Pho Mac has the hook-up. This Vietnamese restaurant has a cute atmosphere and prompt service. Don't leave without an order of the crunchy calamari with the garlic sauce.

Fab Cup

One of the few cafe's Staten Island has. This little nook offers Acai bowls and a plethora of crepe options. So delicious, so cozy. Order anything and everything.

Clove Lake Bagels

Hammered? Need a late-night/early morning pick me up? Head over to Clove Rd. and consume the fluffiest bagel your privileged mouth with ever chew. Go on, eat the whole thing. Maybe even make it an egg and cheese, or go the traditional route with some cream cheese!

Victory Cantina

Hmm... Mexican anyone? Best mojitos? Yes. Best tacos? Yes. Great service? Yes! I love this place, it has such a friendly atmosphere and I leave satisfied every time. Make sure to order the Cordoba Chicken taco, I get a lettuce wrap and a coconut mojito.

Avocado Sushi

Last but not least... sushi! I'm relatively picky about my sushi, and this place makes me really happy. The fish is fresh and the rolls are beautiful. Go with everything and anything. If you find yourself on the South Shore, give this place a call.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
