Buffalo, a city filled with events to keep the locals busy. Art festivals, music and live performances as well as the carnival rides that roll into town, yearly people are eager to participate and experience that which makes this city great. But Buffalo’s greatest treasure will always be its food. Whether you already live here and need suggestions for the next place to eat or traveling and want to hit up the hottest spots, down below are some unique restaurants that will have you coming back for more.

1. SATO Ramen

739 Elmwood Ave. Buffalo, NY 14222 & 3268 Main St. Buffalo, NY 14214
Known for their selection of ramen; SATO has two different locations, each with their own flavors. Their portion sizes are generous and can even accommodate those who are vegetarian. They use authentic Japanese flavors as well as local and fresh ingredients. SATO even has their broth brewing the entire day to truly enrich the flavors within the ramen. Their most popular dish, the Sato Ramen, is a stock of pork and chicken with pork infused soy. Toppings for the dish include: chashu pork, bean sprouts, green onions, bamboo shoots, pickled ginger, green onions, and a soft boiled egg.

2. Amy’s Place

3234 Main St. Buffalo, NY 14214
Amy’s Place is Lebanese inspired restaurant that has a wide variety for those who are vegetarian and vegan. You can truly taste how much effort they put into their food. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day between 7AM and 9PM every day. They also have a selection of dishes with meat and a small section to buy homemade baked goods. One of my personal favorites, the Veggie Wet Shoe, is a vegetarian version of a garbage plate. The plate is filled with curly q fries topped with spicy lentils, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, peppers, grilled onions, and comes with a side of sour cream.

3. Suzy-Q’s Bar-B-Que Shack

2829 Niagara St. Buffalo, NY 14207
If you are thinking of having their famous ribs be sure to either come in early or to call ahead because they go fast. The shack may be small and nothing fancy but the portions they give out for such a cheap price is worth it. The decorations give a warm homey feel and the food is always hot. Their meat is freshly cut and falls off of the bone, lavishly topped with barbeque sauce, and the pile of fries they have compliments any dish served. A unique dish of their own would be their baked cornbread glazed on top with honey, a perfect savory dessert to finish your day.

4. La Divina Mexican Store

2896 Delaware Ave. Buffalo, NY 14217
Functions as both a market as well as a restaurant. La Divina has authentic Mexican cuisine and you can even watch them prepare and make your food right after you order. Their street tacos are only about $2 each, quesadillas being $3 for a small and $6 for a large, and they have freshly made tortillas every day. They even have a wide variety of meat choices such as pork, ground beef, crisped steak, braised pork, and chicken. La Divina also includes vegetarian and vegan tacos so that there is no barrier and everyone is able to enjoy them.

5. Raclettes

537 Main St. Buffalo, NY 14203
This Parisian style restaurant has a wide variety of traditional French cuisine. Their menu includes cheese and chocolate fondues, $18 bottles of wine every day, sweet as well as savory crepes, seafood, baguette sandwiches, and a full bar. You are able to even reserve a patio and they do live music on Thursdays. Their bistros even change seasonally to always keep the menu new and exciting.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
