Living in a city like Los Angeles, who said studying has to be a drag? Now that the quarter is in full swing and midterms are likely right around the corner, it’s time to start cracking open those textbooks

Now that the quarter is in full swing and midterms are likely right around the corner, it’s time to start cracking open those textbooks. Spring quarter is probably everyone’s least favorite time to be studying, on account of the warm weather and the desire to hang with friends who will be parting ways before long. However, there are 10 weeks ahead and plenty of studying that needs to be done.

Make the unbearable work a little more enjoyable. Check out the following five study spots to spice up your hours of reading and problem sets. They are spread around Los Angeles, each offering a unique study experience worth exploring, so there’s no reason studying can’t be the highlight of your week.

1. There’s no place like Powell!

After spending hours online researching the best places to study in L.A., I was surprised – or maybe not so surprised – to find that UCLA’s very own Powell Library is a popular favorite. Let the beauty of its towering archways and vaulted ceilings transport you to another time and inspire you to meet the grandeur of your surroundings with some praiseworthy studying of your own.  Attending one of the nation’s best universities, let your fellow Bruins motivate you as you burn the midnight oil.  Powell provides a breathtaking setting and a studious atmosphere, so you won’t have to look far from home to find the perfect place to study the day away.

2. Silverlake Reservoir

Tucked away in the hills of Silver Lake is one of the most relaxing study spots in L.A.  As spring quarter brings back even more beautiful weather, it can be even harder to lock yourself away to get some studying done.  It’s such a shame to waste even a moment of the beauty waiting outside, so grab your books and head to the Silverlake Reservoir to get a tan while you tackle the mound of studying that awaits.  A 30-minute drive from campus, this picturesque public park offers a serene environment and zero chances of Wi-Fi distraction – the perfect place to lay back on a blanket and read the hundreds of pages you’ve been putting off. Plus, the light breeze is a much healthier energy boost than any caffeinated beverage can offer.

3. UnUrban Café

Calling all tree huggers, UnUrban Café is a bohemian paradise. Located in the middle of Santa Monica, UnUrban Café provides an intimate and laid back atmosphere. With incense wafting throughout and covered in local art, this café is sure to offer a unique studying experience. Open until midnight and offering a wide selection of coffee, pastries and sandwiches, along with well-worn furniture, UnUrban Café offers a comfortable setting and an inviting place to study, all in one.  Stand up to the Man and abandon the big chain coffee shops for a studying experience all its own.

4. Bourgeois Pig

Another unique find, Bourgeois Pig is truly one of a kind. Open until 2 a.m. and boasting both a strong latte and an incredibly cool environment, you’ll barely notice the unpleasantness of studying amid such an enticing atmosphere. With a pool table in back, for those much needed study breaks, and baristas floating around with great tastes in music, studying at Bourgeois Pig is anything but ordinary, and certainly not boring. We haven’t even gotten to the best part yet. The Bourgeois Pig café has its very own enchanted forest. Complete with trees, an ivy-colored hut, and a fake fire pit, you could easily mistake this room for Peter Pan’s Neverland. Just because you’re an adult, it doesn’t mean you ever have to grow up. Make an adventure of your next study session and get lost in the magic of Bourgeois Pig.

5. Getty Villa

Take a quick getaway to Malibu and spend your day studying in style at the Getty Villa. Overlooking the breathtaking Malibu coastline and complete with lovely gardens and luxurious fountains, the Getty will transport you to another time and offer you the peace and quite that makes up a perfect study space. With free admission to students, take advantage of the serenity that this museum has to offer. Take a trip to classical Greece and let the presence of Athena inspire your studies. There’s no reason the Getty can’t make you’re next assignment a divinely inspired A!

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
