Congratulations! If you’re reading this then you’ve (almost) survived April, also known to college students as the most hellish month of the year. You’ve made it, but there’s still one more thing standing between you and three glorious months of summer vacation: finals. That’s right, it’s finals season. Even though we’ll all be spending the next two weeks writing papers until our fingers bleed, studying for finals until you can recite Italian verb conjugations in your sleep, and crying the night before your final group project is due, there will inevitably also be quite a few hours of procrastination in there. Make the most of those hours by watching some great movies. Whether it’s a classic you’ve never seen, a throwback to your childhood, or your current favorite, a movie is always a good way to escape the overwhelming world of college life for a few hours. Plus, you could say you’re getting a cultural education -- right?

1. "Casablanca."

This movie is an absolute classic and if you haven’t seen it already, then you simply must. After watching this movie you’ll be on an endless search for your own Humphrey Bogart and low key wishing that your life played out in romantic cinematic grayscale.

2. "Inside Out."

Disney may have marketed this as a kid’s movie but adults of all ages love it, too. Whether or not you saw this in theaters, it’s a movie that you have to see again. The relatable and moving storyline will surely have you streaming happy tears, but the time the ending credits roll.

3. "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

When finals got you down and the stress seems unbearable, sometimes a good laugh is the only cure and Monty Python is sure to get you laughing. Once the movie is over you could keep the laughter going with Youtube clips of Monty Python’s "Flying Circus," or their two other movies -- "The Meaning of Life" and "Life of Brian." Plus, debating the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow is basically the same as studying for physics.

4. "10 Things I Hate About You."

Heath Ledger, young Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Julia Stiles? What else could you ever want? This quintessential teenage film will have you laughing, crying, and swooning all in just just 90 short minutes. Extra points if you can guess what Shakespeare play the movie’s plot is based off.

5. "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Think that you and your friends are crazy on weekends? Think again. Get a glimpse into the life of an 1980s stock broker and professional partier, Jordan Belfort. Then, next time you go out channel your inner Belfort by blasting “Jordan Belfort” by Wes Walker.

6. "Toy Story."

Quintessential to your child, bring back simpler days by cozying up to watch "Toy Story." While you’re at it you might as well watched the second and third ones too and make your journey back to the present. Once you finish them all your new mantra while studying can be ,“To infinity, and beyond!”

7. "The Godfather."

Really feeling out of it? Need a particularly long study break? Then "The Godfather" is just the movie for you. Watch some great acting with an all star cast featuring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino and escape into the world of the New York mafia.

8. "Wild."

Since you can’t be outside during this beautiful time of year because of finals then you might as well watch someone else immerse themselves in this beauty of nature. Reese Witherspoon excellently portrays the character of Cheryl Strayed, a young woman who’s lost her way and so decides to hike herself back to the woman her mother raised her to be along the West Coast’s Pacific Crest Trail.

9. "Spotlight."

Grab all of your english, journalism, and/or communication major friends and rent this new movie that features Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, and Rachel McAdams. The commitment and dedication of the Boston Globe’s Spotlight Team to uncover the cover up of the local Catholic Archdiocese will motivate you to make it through the next two weeks.

10. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

Really bring it back to your child and escape the responsibilities of the college life by immersing yourself into the magical world of Harry Potter. Return back to Hogwarts with your childhood best friends Harry, Ron, and Hermione. You could even make it into a movie marathon and take a whole day break from studying. When you do get back to studying remember the wise words of Dumbledore: “Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.”

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
