Although most people would probably start this list off with classic Halloween movies, I have chosen to go another route. I didn’t include just Halloween films or even just monster movies. I also included anything that personally scares me.

10) Godzilla

The cult classic about a giant lizard ravaging Tokyo was so successful it’s been remade and remade repeatedly. The fear isn’t as strong for me in this one, I love watching the older versions with the horrible English translations, but otherwise, I put Godzilla on this list because of his creature recognizability. Everyone knows Godzilla and if they don’t they should.

9) Alien

The Alien creatures in Alien are by far some of the strangest things I've ever seen. I don’t get scared really, just grossed out with this one. They way they latch on and suck out your face is just way too much for me.

8) Tremors

This movie freaked me out. I was terrified something was coming up from under the floor. Might have had to do with the fact that I watched this movie when I was way too young to be watching something like it. Overall, Tremors is one that just can’t flow for me.

7) The Creature from the Black Lagoon

The original (now classic) swamp monster. For the time period, it was originally made in, this film has some interesting graphical aspects. Overall any monster that’s coming for me means I’m running the other way.

6) Little Shop of Horrors

Carnivorous plants anyone? As a kid, this totally wigged me out big time. I did not even know that such a thing really existed until after seeing a bit of this film.

5) Lake Placid

No, no, no, no, no! Do I need to repeat this one? I just cannot handle this movie. To be honest, I saw part of this when I was about 13. Needless to say, the giant human-eating crocodile was never viewed by my eyes again.

4) Jaws

Sharks are cool! But not when they eat people. Just saying. Jaws is one of those movies that people love or hate. For me, it comes down to the blood. I can watch shows and movies with bloody scenes, but seeing all that red floating in the ocean was a bit of an overkill. Get it! Overkill! Anyways, if you love sharks or gore, this is your movie monster.

3) Frankenstein

I hold a special fondness for Frankenstein. It’s really not his fault he's so big and looks so strange and eats… well, you get the point. Frankenstein is a classic movie monster. So classic he’s been made into new films, recreated as a cartoon for kids, and even featured as a McDonald’s toy at one point.

2) Dracula

I want to suck your blood! Another cult classic, Dracula is one of my all-time favorite movie monsters. Vampires have been a part of pop culture for decades for decades, but nobody does it like Dracula. Other vampire based films may come and go, but Dracula will always remain king of the vampire cult. Truthfully, my favorite rendition of Dracula is Gary Oldman’s performance in the 1992 film.

1) Pennywise

Due to the recent IT remake, Pennywise the creepy clown had to take my number 1 spot. Although I don’t fear clowns like many other people, my mom included, I do see why Pennywise is a horror of a monster. To me, the fear of Pennywise comes not from the fact that he’s a clown, but more from the fact that he just POPS up at you.

So, there you have it. My list of my top 10 Movie Monsters. I know there are much more I didn’t include on this list. That’s your job, my friends.

What is your creepiest, scariest, or strangest movie monster?

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.
