The Harry Potter series has seven books, eight movies, and endless opportunities for interesting tattoos. Still, with so many fans of the series, people are bound to have the same tattoo ideas. Here's a list of the most common Harry Potter ideas from the semi-original to the downright insulting.
10. Hogwarts Castle
From hyper realistic to cartoonish, the Hogwarts Castle is a great choice for a Harry Potter tattoo. Despite its popular presence in the tattoo community, it is number ten on the list because it can be drawn in hundreds of styles.
9. Stag
The stag is also an ultra popular choice for a Harry Potter tattoo with a lot of variance. Even though it's one animal, it can be expressed in more ways than just as a wispy blue patronus...
8. Your Patronus
A patronus is essentially the spirit animal version of yourself; this allows some creativity and variance as to which animal you choose. Still, there's only so many times I can look at a blue watercolor animal and be in awe.
7. Minimalist Harry
I don't know where this trend started but it's spreading like wildfire. It appeals to all mainstream senses: it's cute, it's small, and it's minimalist. It's still fairly high on the list though because it's a fairly recent trend.
6. Lumos/Expecto Patronum
The spells lumos and expecto patronum exemplify light and happiness, making them obvious choices for tattoos. Most of these tattoos are written in light and cursive fonts which leaves little variance.
5. Three Stars
These three stars are just like the three stars at the top of each page of the Harry Potter books. It was a novel idea but it is quickly becoming one of the most common Harry Potter tattoos. Not to mention, star tattoos are already notoriously cliché.
4. The Dark Mark
I have never understood this trend. Why would you want the mark of Voldemort's followers on your body? Nonetheless, since its introduction in the fourth Harry Potter book, it has been a staple of Harry Potter tattoos.
3. The Deathly Hallows
The Deathly Hallows sign seems to be the incontestable symbol for the Harry Potter series despite the fact that it was only formally introduced in the final book. Today it is arguably the most tattooed symbol of the series. But, it is not the most cliché.
2. Always
Out of the entire Harry Potter series, out of all the important lessons and lessons, you choose to honor a hard, cruel man's unrequited love? Yes, Snape's love for Lily was a fascinating plot twist to the story and added depth to Snape's character. However, Snape was ultimately a bitter man with nothing but selfish intentions and unnecessary cruelty to the those around him. It is insulting to the story of Harry Potter and terrifically cliché.
1. Always with the Deathly Hallows as the A
What was once an original idea for a tattoo is now the infinity tattoo of the Harry Potter community. It's overdone, cliché, and based on the worst love story of the series. For the love of Godric Gryffindor, do NOT get this tattoo.
