People say that high school is the best four years of your life, but it is also the fastest. It seems like yesterday was my first day of high school and now I am a week away from graduation. I never thought that my senior year was going to end this way, but it made me realize that I was thankful for things I didn't even realize. These are my top ten high school memories :
1. Making the Color Guard Squad
Color guard was my first family at Belleville West. My freshman year was just me putting my toes in the water and figuring out how to survive high school. It wasn't until my sophomore year when I tried out for the squad. I remember sitting in my 7th hour world history class, waiting for the list to be posted. Once I saw my name on that list, I could not stop smiling. It was probably one of the best days of my life. Color guard really helped me come out of my shell and find a passion that I don't plan on dropping.
2. My 1st hour Honors Civics class
This class was not only my favorite class, but this class also helped me find my friend group that I have today. We used to sit in the back of the class and talk about the latest band drama. We also had a group chat that we would used after we finished our work and we would play Uno together. There was never a dull day in that class.
3. 2019 MMCGA Championships
2019 was the first year that Belleville West winter guard went out and competed in our circuit. During the first few weeks of the season, we were kicking butt. We were showing everyone who Belleville West was. With all of our hard work, we ended up getting the gold metal in our round.
4. Making Maroon Majic
I was in choir all four years in high school. From a mixed choir to concert choir. I was always shy when it came to singing because I always thought I was wrong or not even on the right pitch. However, for my senior year I decided that I would try out for Maroon Majic, one of the top choirs at West. I thought that I would just make concert choir and treble choir, but I ended up making Maroon Majic for my senior year. This boosted my confidence in so many ways.
5. Traveling to Nashville, TN
This year for winter guard, we traveled to Nashville, Tennessee for our first WGI regional this year ( See group photo above ). This was one of my favorite competitions that we went to because we got to see some of the best winter guards in the area. We also got to explore Nashville after the competition.
6. My 2nd hour Agricultural Science class
This was my was probably my favorite class from freshman year. There were only a total of four freshman in that class and we all clicked. We learned how to farm and how to identify different breeds of cows and other animals. Which is pretty cool because my family has a farm down in Missouri.
7. 2018 District Convention
During my sophomore year I was in Key club, a club that performs acts of service in their communities, and we left for our district convention. This is when all the clubs in the area would meet in Springfield and have meetings on how we can improve our club. I meet so many new people that changed me as a person. It was a weekend that was filled with learning and fun.
8. Getting my first car
This was a big one because I started to get more opportunities. I could get my first job, run to the store by myself, and hang out with friends whenever. Not to mention, I get to decided what time I want to get to school in the morning.
9. First competition season
My first competition season was one to remember. I always thought, what would happen if I forgot the whole show, what do I do with my face, etc. I remember winning best color guard at our very first competition and it was just uphill from there.
10. My last day at Belleville West
March 13, 2020 was my last day sitting in a classroom. In the back of my head, I knew that a stay at home order was coming. Teachers were telling everyone to be ready just in case we had to go on lock down. The seniors this year are going down as the strongest graduating class ever.
Now it may seem like normal things that happen everyday, but these memories made me who I am today.
Goodbye Belleville West, Hello Missouri State.
