What a year 2016 has been! From a presidential election to some of the best music in years. 2016 had a new form of media entertainment make an impact in the world, Memes. I have been a big fan of the memes that have come out this year, so here is my list of the top memes of the year (in no particular order).

1. Evil Kermit

Kermit the Frog memes aren't new to the world. They started when Kermit made an appearance in a Lipton iced tea commercial. This year a picture showing Kermit look at Kermit with a dark hood over his head had the world spinning with a new meme: The Evil Kermit.

2. Bernie V. Hillary

This past year was a whirlwind of a presidential election. And of course th internet reacted in the only way it could, by making a meme of it. When the race was still on deciding between Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton, the internet made it clear who they supported.

3. Harambe

This past year we lost many hero's. David Bowie, Carol Fisher, and Harambe. After the a child fell into the gorilla exhibit at the zoo, the zoo keepers shot Harambe the gorilla down. This caused an uproar creating many, MANY memes about Harambe.

4. Arthurs Fist

Arthur the Aardvark from the wildly popular children series created a giant stream of memes this past year juts from a picture of his fist.

5. Angry Michael Phelps

This past summer the Rio Olympics were held. Michael Phelps demolished many swimming races and won the gold many times. All of this and a meme were created to honor the swimmer.

6. Petty Joe Biden

Personally this is my favorite meme of the year. People took pictures of Joe Biden and Barack Obama and created memes of the Vice President being a petty, petty man.

7. Leo and the Oscar

2016 was the year that Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar award. Before he won it, there were many memes reflecting the pain Leo felt before he won.

8. Blurry Mr. Krabs

This meme hit everyone on a personal level. Just look at what I mean.

9. Bad and Bougie

A new song released by the rap group Migos has started a new trending meme in the last weeks of 2016. The first couple of lines of their song so "Rain drop, Drop top," and after that the world created their own lyrics...

10. Beginning of 2016, End of 2016

The start of the new year brings optimism out of people. People are excited to start over and change themselves. But once the end of the year hits (especially after one like 2016) and you realized nothing you promised yourself happened, you feel crappy. This is what this meme is all about.

Heres hopong 2017 is a better year then this one!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
