I'm half way through my semester abroad studying in Florence and I have already managed to eat my way through Italy. Coming from a girl who eats for two and never misses a meal, these are the absolute must have meals you should try if you ever find yourself in the beautiful, and might I add, delicious country, Italy. While I only have a little more than a month remaining, I can only imagine the rest of the meals I will find and devour as I continue my adventures abroad. Look out, I am conquering Italy one forkful at a time.
10. Pizza
"I went to Italy and hated the pizza," said no one ever. Whatever you do, make sure you get AT LEAST one slice of one of these bad boys. The crust is crispy, the tomato sauce is to-die-for, and the mozzarella cheese doesn't have words that do justice to describe the flavor. I promise you, pizza from Italy is the greatest pizza you will eat in your life. Add toppings, or get the classic Margherita pie, you can't lose.
9. Spaghetti al Pomodoro
The best spaghetti in tomato sauce I have ever had... Sorry Grandma!
8. Tiramisu
I've never been a big dessert fan, or even a Tiramisu fan, but this plate is incredible. My only regret with this dish is not ordering my own. Make sure to save room for dessert when you eat at Acqua al 2.
7. Nutella Crepes & Waffles
If you're one with a sweet tooth La Milkeria is a must try. Nutella waffles and crepes with out a doubt will have you licking your fingers (and your plate) at the end of this meal.
6. Pesto
For those of you who have had pesto before, you haven't had real pesto until you try pesto from the region it originated, Cinque Terre. Get it on your pasta, put it on your pizza, or even dip your bread it in. You are missing out in life if you don't try Cinque Terre pesto. My taste for pesto will never be the same.
5. Tomato and Mozzarella
Call me basic but I could eat tomato and mozzarella every day until I die. Nothing makes my day better than an appetizer of this before every meal. Call me the mozz monster because I am going to turn into a piece of mozzarella before I return home to the States.
4. Seafood Pasta
Seafood lovers, put your bibs on and unbuckle your pants before digging in. Don't forget about trying the fresh seafood Italy has to offer. It's even better thrown into some al dente cooked spaghetti. I'm positive I didn't breathe between bites on this dish.
3. Blueberry Filet Mignon
Another heavenly dish from Acqua al 2. Filet Mignon covered in a blueberry sauce, must I say more?
2. Prosciutto Panini
Another day, another panini. Get the famous All'Antico Vinaio panini. My personal favorite is the La Sumer panini covered in prosciutto, tomatoes, mozzarella, and arugula.
1. Pear Ravioli
The absolute best thing I've eaten while in Italy. Easily crushed this plate in less than 5 minutes, and I wasn't mad about it. Well, maybe a little because I wanted more. Pear Ravioli, you have changed me for the better.
