Now that Halloween and the election are over, let's try to be happier! It's holiday season, isn't it? Though the temperatures outdoors may be bitter and freezing, during the holidays we can find warmth in our hearts. Let's take a look of all that we have to be excited for in the upcoming weeks.

10) Holiday Decorations

Christmas trees, lights, and wreaths turn the streets and buildings into a true spectacle that you can’t take your eyes off of and put you in a festive spirit. In Johns Creek, along Hospital Parkway, after Thanksgiving every year there are massive lights of Christmas images--light-up angels, reindeer, sleds, even a couple animated lights, such as a teddy bear crawling up a candy cane.

9) Holiday Sales

The holidays are a time to relax, but the sales are something to go crazy for. Black Friday shopping is a major frenzy (tip: buy gift cards on Black Friday to use yourself later!).

8) Scenery

There are few things in the world more stunning than the stillness of a winter morning after it’s snowed, with a blanket of undisturbed whiteness extending before you, not a footprint yet indented in it (we can appreciate it even more since we live in an area where it hardly snows). Unless it’s the trees in autumn as their leaves change color and fly in piles onto the ground. Either way, the natural world during the holidays is beautiful.

7) Fall and Winter Fashion

We can stop pretending to be comfortable in short shorts and tank tops, trading them out for flannels and oversized sweaters. At home, we lounge in the comfort of sweatpants.

6) Days Off

Yes, the holidays can be stressful what with exams and buying gifts on a budget, which is why the days off we have are even more special. While work and school can wear us down to the bone, holiday days off allow us time to breathe and do something just for fun or for our own sanity. If you want to go to the movies, feel free; if you want to go to the park or go ice skating, feel free. Or, on the contrary, if all you want is to spend a chill day at home, that's perfectly fine too!

5) Christmas Movies/TV Specials

After Halloween, the world reverts from horror movies to Christmas movies--humorous, sentimental, and/or light-hearted films that make us appreciate the world around us. Love Actually, Home Alone, Charlie Brown. Then there are the numerous TV specials and TV concerts in celebration of the holidays too!

4) Food

The holidays are a time where you can shake off your diet and absolutely no one will judge you. Instead of limiting yourself to a nutritious but disappointing salad, the holidays up you to a wide array of comfort food, heavier than regular food, but in the cold weather, that is exactly what we want. Fill your plates with Thanksgiving turkey, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes, and come back for a dessert of pumpkin pie or gingerbread!

3) Holiday Music

Music, already universally famous for being able to put us in any mood, can certainly rev up our holiday spirits. Christmas carols and songs play across the radios and in buildings and in shows, featuring very traditional melodies such as "Silent Night" and "White Christmas", more modern takes such as "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Santa Baby", and even more original Christmas music released by our favorite artists every year.

2) Family Time

Sometimes we want to explode at family members or annoying relatives and venture for a life on the streets, but in the end, your family loves you and these are priceless times you will treasure. In the end, every memory created with family will be something for your days of reminiscing.

1) Everyone seems to love each other more

We all need a little more love in this world.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
