It's that time of the year again. Time to stay up late, curl up in your favorite footie pajamas with a bowl of popcorn in your lap with your favorite hot chocolate (or pumpkin spice latte, if you're basic, like me), and watch Halloween movies. ABC Family is famous for releasing their "13 Nights of Halloween" list every year, and every year it is highly anticipated. Here is a top 10 list of Halloween movie favorites.
10. "Scary Movie"
This movie spawned its very own franchise. Lots of well-known celebrities starred or appeared in these movies as a "filler" role. People like Charlie Sheen, Ashley Tisdale, and Anna Faris all starred in these movies. It's surely a classic Halloween comedy that combines the laughs and horror of Halloween.
9. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
I've personally never seen this movie, but when asking all of my friends, they DEFINITELY recommended this. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is created by legend Tim Burton and is a classic of Halloween. Must-see.
8. "Addams Family Values"
If you haven't seen this movie, GO SEE IT. The hit TV show and movie are both classics. A family living in a gothic manor going about their day-to-day scary lives is entertaining enough. Watch this with your family, it's a sure-fire family classic.
7. "Beetlejuice"
Who doesn't love Michael Keaton? No one. "Beetlejuice" is about a young couple that wants to get rid a ghost in their new home. Michael Keaton stars as Betelgeuse, a ghoul who instructs the young deceased couple that they must occupy their home (with the new family as its inhabitants) for 125 years. If you haven't seen it, it's a must-see. ABC Family shows it almost every weekend during the month of October.
6. "Twitches" (and "Twitches Too")
Okay. Disney Channel movies now are losing their edge, but back then, "Twitches" and its sequel generated enough publicity that it was popular. The two main stars, Tia and Tamara Mowry, are long-lost twins who have recently discovered they are witches -- and princesses that must save their kingdom. Original? Maybe not. But it's definitely up there on the list to see.
5. "Return to Halloweentown"
I separated all the "Halloweentown" movies, because each one deserves its own special ranking. The fourth and final movie in the popular Halloween franchise stars Sara Paxton and Lucas Grabeel, unusual Paxton replacing the original Marnie, Kimberly J. Brown. Besides all the casting issues, the movie is all-around good and deserves its credit. We see Marnie heading off to college and dealing with real world issues. There, she learns what it's really like to be a witch and how to master her powers. No spoilers!
4. "Halloweentown High"
Like the other movies in the franchise, this movie generated tons of publicity. Personally, this is my favorite movie in the franchise -- if not my favorite Halloween movie to watch ever. This movie demonstrates what it's like to be weird in high school (i.e a werewolf, fairy, witch, etc). I would 100 percent recommend this movie to everyone of all ages.
3. "Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge"
Ah, the throwback. Halloween is one of the most popular holidays. This movie is the ultimate sequel to its highly-successful movie, "Halloweentown." We see the beloved characters, Marnie, Grandma Aggie, Dylan, and Sophie, but also introduce new characters such as Kalabar's son, Kal. This film was produced to be darker than the other movies.
2. "Halloweentown"
AH YES. The throwback. When this movie came out in 1999, our hearts were forever changed whenever we saw that gigantic pumpkin (in background of picture). Classic tale of becoming who you are (in this case, a witch) and discovering your family background along the way. Disney did some great things back then.
1. "Hocus Pocus"
Number one: "Hocus Pocus." The Sanderson Sisters will forever be the greatest witches we have ever seen. Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler make the perfect witches -- Parker being the start of her fabulous career. Plus, who can't get over Binx and Dani's friendship? Plus, it came out recently that Dani in real life had a crush on Binx (the person, not the cat). Aw, how cute. Childhood memories coming up again is such a nice touch to Halloween.
