Every hometown has great restaurants that you long for while you're away at college, and Wilmington, North Carolina is no exception. There are tons of amazing eateries in Wilmington from the beaches to the riverfront, all with their own specialties. I have narrowed down the top 10 foods that all locals know and love!
1. Trolly Stop Hotdogs
Nothing completes a beach day like a hot dog and a cookie that gets all melty while you eat lunch in the sunshine.
2. Islands' Dollar Tacos
Yes, you heard that right, after 5 p.m. every day, tacos are one dollar at Islands. The location on Racine is the only location as far as I’m concerned. The others just aren’t the same.
3. P.T.’s French Fries
The burgers and chicken sandwiches are great too, don’t get me wrong, but the fries are the reason I go.
4. Brunch at Dixie Grill
Hungover? Make your way to Dixie Grille for a Bloody Mary and a Dixie Benedict. Instant relief -- I guarantee it.
5. Burritos from Flaming Amy’s
With burritos that have names like the Triple Bypass and the Bacon Cheeseburgeritto how can you go wrong?
6. Robert’s Chicken Salad
So, you don’t actually have to be in Wilmington for this one, since it’s now sold in Harris Teeters across the state. But there’s nothing like walking the loop and celebrating your semi-fitness with a Robert’s Chicken Salad sandwich!
7. A Burger from Winnie’s Tavern
Hands-down, the best burger in Wilmington. Just last week, vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence even stopped in!
8. Almost Anything from Indochine
If you live in Wilmington, chances are you’ve had a birthday, graduation party or pre-prom meal at Indochine. The Thai and Vietnamese fare is amazing – and the outdoor seating is one of the most picturesque spots in Wilmington.
9. A Barbecue Sandwich from Jackson’s Big Oak Barbecue
And don’t forget the slaw!
10. Slice of Pizza from Slice of Life Pizzeria
Not only is the pizza amazing, they’re open super late, so you can go from the bar to the shop to stuff your face before heading home.
