Disney villains can really make or break a movie. Despite their evil intentions, some are quite funny or even admirable. Here are my Top Ten Disney villain quotes (in no particular order). Some are thought-provoking, some funny, some serious.
1. “Don’t underestimate the importance of body language!” – Ursula As a kid, I didn’t think much of this line (most kids wouldn’t), but now that I am older, I have to agree. Think about it: Body language is powerful, even if it isn’t in a sexual way as hinted by Ursula.
2. “He’s a guy! They’re all the same!” – Hades Sometimes it’s easy to believe Hades when it comes to the love department. Granted, he probably doesn’t have much experience with ladies, seeing as he’s God of the Dead which isn’t exactly attractive. Love isn't easy to find.
3. “Off with their heads!” – Queen of Hearts Occasionally, you have a lot of anger and feel like you are going to rip someone’s head off. Although I wouldn’t suggest following through with that, I would suggest finding a more benign way of getting your anger out. You could always yell “off with your head!” like the Queen of Hearts and see how people react. It might make you laugh and put you in a better mood.
4. “Mother knows best.” – Mother Gothel Once I babysat a kid who told me that I was wrong because his mother told him something different and “mommy is always right.” It was cute but often it is true, even if it doesn’t seem so in the moment. Honestly, our moms know better than we do more than we’d like to admit.
5. “I’m surrounded by idiots.” – Scar In college it can be pretty easy to either feel like you are surrounded by idiots or you are the idiot. I find myself quoting this Scar line a lot. Keep calm and carry on.
6. “A woman doesn’t know how powerful her voice is until it’s been silenced.” – Ursula Oddly enough, I don’t actually remember this line very much, but I wish it was better known. Anyone who knows a little history should know how long women have had (and continue) to fight to be heard. Use your voice!
7. “They're not like you and me, which means they must be evil.” – Ratcliffe This line in the final song “Savages” is prime example of ignorance toward people who are different than you. Keeping an open mind is so important these days, especially with the diversity of the United States.
8. “Life’s full of tough choices, isn’t it?” – Ursula Yes, yes it is. Should I study more? Should I buy this dress? What do I eat for dinner? Do I really need to go to this 8 a.m.? Ugh, so many tough choices.
9. “After all, there are things so much worse than death!” – Jafar Another line I don’t remember well but powerful nonetheless. Jafar is one of the more sassy villains, but he does have some thoughtful lines.
10. "You are deformed, and you are ugly, and these are things for which the world shows little pity.” – Judge Frollo Another powerful line. Although Frollo is trying to convince Quasimodo that the world outside of Notre Dame is evil, we know that truly it is Frollo who is the evil and judgmental one. The world is full of loving people; you just need to find them.
