Have you ever heard of The Chainsmokers? If not, then I feel sorry for your ears because they are missing out on some great songs. The Chainsmokers is an electronic dance music and pop duo.
Ranking and creating a list of Chainsmokers' songs was not an easy task because there are so many good ones. For example, there is not any unlikable song on their "Collage" EP. When "Memories... Do Not Open" was released, I spent the whole night listening to the debut album and woke up to listen to it again. Here is my top 10 list.
Honorable Mention: "Kanye" (ft. SirenXX) and "Good Intentions" (ft. BullySongs)
Yes, "Kanye" is about a song encouraging people to be more like Kanye West but in the terms of his success. Kanye is one of the most influential hip-hop artists of all time. I find it incredible that the Chainsmokers aspires to reach "Kanye" status during their career.
"Born in broken home, okay
Single mama, let me chase what I was made for
We made out to Paradise,
Build on nickels, rubbing dimes
I'm entitled to so much more"
BullySongs did an amazing job teaming up with the Chainsmokers to produce "Good Intentions." Do you promise to bring good intentions on the paths you walk?
10. "Until You Were Gone" (with Tritonal ft. Emily Warren)
Like several Chainsmokers' songs, there is a lead female vocalist. Emily Warren leads "Until You Were Gone." The music video is just as good as the song. You can see Chainsmokers competing against Tritonal to impress the likes of a fitness instructor. Unfortunately, neither of them gets the girl. Well, it was worth the shot.
9. "My Type" (ft. Emily Warren)
Here is one of their newer songs. When I hear "My Type," I think of it as part of the relationship saga that the Chainsmokers created with "Closer." Emily Warren sings about the struggles of being with the guy, but she can't blame him nor let him go because he is just her type.
8. "Setting Fires" (ft. XYLØ)
Have you seen the lyric video to "Setting Fires"? Watching the video created nostalgia for me as it reminded me of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater days. It makes me want to grab a skateboard and learn how to skate.
7. "Something Just Like This" (ft. Coldplay)
The past (Coldplay) meets the future (Chainsmokers) with this song. If "Rose" and "Closer" had a baby, then it would be this song. "Something Just Like This" is one of the singles from their debut album. It is so good that the NCAA used it as a theme song for the March Madness Tournament.
6. "Last Day Alive" (ft. Florida Georgia Line)
I really hope the Chainsmokers release "Last Day Alive" as a single. It was a great idea to place the song as the last song on "Memories... Do Not Open." It closes the album on a good note and shows the fans that Chainsmokers are growing and have more to offer than their "Collage" songs.
5. "Don't Let Me Down" (ft. Draya)
"Don't Let Me Down" was the first ever song I heard by the Chainsmokers. I love this song because of its deep lyrics causing listeners to think of their loved ones. I discovered it because of Kurt Hugo Schneider, who is a YouTube sensation. KHS's cover to "Don't Let Me Down" led me to listen to the original version. Thanks to KHS, I am a Chainsmokers fan.
4. "Honest"
This is the best song on their debut album if I am being honest. There are a select few songs that do not involve a feature. "Honest" is one of them, and it is my favorite one of them. Earlier, I mentioned a relationship saga. I view "Honest" as the male counterpart to "My Type," which is a response to what goes on in "Honest." "Honest" is about a guy who struggles with the temptation of thinking of another girl outside of his relationship.
"It's 5 a.m. and I'm on the radio
I'm supposed to call you, but I don't know what to say at all
And there's this girl, she wants me to take her home
She don't really love me though, I'm just on the radio"
3. "Roses" (ft. Rozes)
Say you'll never let me go. "Roses" is a fun song. The lyrics are filled with lines about having a good time and enjoying the days of life. No one wants to let go of the good ole days. This song is just one of those songs that people with no rhythm would still gladly get up to dance to.
2. "Closer" (ft. Halsey)
"Closer" is my number two. It is the song that touched the soul of every radio station in the summer of 2016. The song had everyone wondering why a person is stealing a roommate's mattress and what is Boulder. Halsey was the perfect option for the song's vocals. "Closer" will go down in history as the most memorable song for both Halsey and the Chainsmokers.
1. "All We Know" (ft. Phoebe Ryan)
"All We Know" is the greatest song by the duo. The song is the sequel to "Closer" as it continues the story of a struggling relationship. The couple is fighting flames with fire while they are holding on to burning wires. Maybe they should just let it go. "All We Know" is the song that we have all experienced at some point in our life. If it is not with a struggling relationship, then it could be reflected on a time when you had to leave an environment that is home to you.
"Never face each other
One bed, different covers
We don't care anymore
Two hearts still beating
On with different rhythms
Maybe we should let this go"
