When I went to Kindergarten in 2000, I demanded that I have a Britney Spears lunchbox. Like basically everyone my age, I was obsessed with her. She’s had a pretty rough go of it, but came out on top in the end (as pop stars only do). Lifetime is coming out with a movie “Britney Ever After,” showing the highs and lows of her career so far. This includes her relationship with Justin Timberlake (which I can’t WAIT to get the juicy details about), her marriages, and of course, the umbrella attack. I personally would rather dwell on the highs, so here’s a list of my top ten Britney songs, past and present.
Let’s be real here, no throwback song will ever top this one. Play it at the bar today and people freak out (or maybe it’s just me). It’s a classic, with an iconic music video to match.
My five-year old heart be still, listening to this I thought I was the ultimate player (Kindergarten was a very competitive dating pool). The part about some handsome man giving her The Heart Of The Ocean, only for her to have been playing him this whole time? Fantastic.
This is the perfect song to drive around to, run to or just straight up jam to. “My loneliness ain’t killing me no more,” is the ultimate girl-power line.
Every time I listen to "Lucky" I get this Deja Vu feeling because this was definitely a cry for help on her part. Still a jam, but I feel a little weird screaming the lyrics to a song that basically told us Britney was crying herself to sleep at night.
The snake...that is all.
While this isn’t technically an original Britney song, I definitely remember having a hit-clip of this and listening to the same 30 seconds on repeat every day at recess.
I can’t even begin to form a thought on this song, it’s THAT good. Still a regular hit for me, I think everyone can relate to this song.
A lesser-known hit, but I still totally love it. This was the beginning of Britney’s more risque music, transitioning her from the cute pop star to a ~woman~.
Suits, waitresses, hot men? Not only is this video fantastic but we all know that one tool who really needs to be put in his place. Maybe Brit should consider going into the greeting card market?
Her most recent of songs, Britney and G-Eazy do a fantastic collab that is both sexy and mysterious.
Britney may have had a few hard years, but I still love and admire her. Now a mom and still performing, she has shown us that we can lift ourselves up from even the furthest of falls.
