10 Adventures To Have In Colorado This Summer

Colorado is the destination spot for your summer vacation. You have the Rocky Mountains, Denver, Broadway shows, art exhibits, hiking, quirky shops, food trucks, Pikes Peak, Red Rocks Amphitheater and amusement parks. Not only is this state full of excitement, but there are also places you can escape to if you want some peace, quiet and natural beauty. Temperatures around June and July are usually in the high 80s to 90s – the ideal weather for fun summer activities. SO, pack a bag and head to colorful Colorado and try to hit some of these fun places while you are there and check out the adventure rating for each activity.

1. Hanging Lake.

Hanging Lake is located in Glenwood Springs, CO, and has become an essential hike for most residents. The trail is relatively short, about a mile, but gets pretty steep along the way. According to the National Park Service’s National Natural Landmarks Program, “Hanging Lake is a unique example within the Southern Rocky Mountains … of a lake formed by travertine deposition.”

Adventure rating: 9/10.

2. Red Rocks Amphitheater.

This natural rock amphitheater is another must-do if in Colorado. The open-aired amphitheater puts on a variety of concerts, film festivals, “yoga on the rocks” and art shows over summer. The natural beauty is captivating. You can enjoy a concert series while watching the sun set over the Denver skyline. Here is their website to find out who is playing this summer.

3. Water World.

This has become a summer tradition for most CO residents. The park is one of America’s largest water theme parks. There is a multitude of attractions from waterslides, a lazy river, a wave pool and the Mile High Flyer, the park’s first water coaster.

4. Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

This museum is full of attractions ranging from an Imax theater, natural history exhibits, activities and lectures that are put on throughout the summer. They also offer “Free Days” throughout the summer.

5. Denver Botanical Gardens.

This destination is a must-see. They show a wide range of gardens with beautiful art pieces and shows incorporated into them. Every summer they a host a sculpture art exhibit throughout the gardens. Individuals can bring in picnics and enjoy the sunshine with family and friends. You can also attend at night and see everything lit up.

6. Larimer Square.

This destination is easily accessible from right in the city. The area has an array of fun shops and amazing restaurants. They also put on events every summer such as the Denver Chalk Art Festival where local artists use chalk to create breathtaking images around the area.

7. Denver Central Market.

This spot is located on the corner of 27th and Larimer. This public market has a variety of vendors from a bakery, coffee, wine, beer, cheese, meat and produce. The Market is always hosting local artists to play and energize the atmosphere. In this beautiful restored, old building, the market provides delicious food and exciting entertainment.

Adventure Rating: 8/10.

8. Little Man's Ice Cream.


This milk jug-shaped ice cream parlor serves homemade ice cream with a variety of fun flavors late into the night. The spot is located in the heart of Denver and is also host to swing dancing, a film festival, and live music. They have flavors such as Chocolate Pecan Pie, Mexican Chocolate, Honey Almond, Twix, Raspberry Love, Oatmeal Cookie and a variety of vegan flavors like Vegan PB Oreo.

Adventure Rating: 10/10.

9. Stella’s Coffee Shop.

This spot is located on Pearl Street. The iconic coffee shop offers a variety of pastries, energy bars and yummy drinks. Not to mention, their coffee is AMAZING. There is outdoor seating available as well as fire pits around the building. The shop has its own character and is located in the heart of an exciting, upcoming shopping district.

Adventure Rating: 9/10.

10. The Rocky Mountains.

This is an absolute must if you are a visitor or resident of Colorado. Each trail, hike, mountain town, shop and restaurant all encapsulate the meaning of Colorado. From all the scenic drives to every amazing sunset, this part of Colorado is colorful, fun, beautiful and full of adventure at every turn.
