When you're younger you're always under the impression that if you're nice, everyone will be nice back to you. As you get a little older you're reminded that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. And often for guys, they're told that "nice guys finish last." Either way, we grow up with this conception that if you're nice, all will be well in the world.
Unfortunately, this just doesn't seem to be the case. I suffer from being "too nice." Seriously, I think it's actually a problem. So if you're anything like me, being nice often has made you feel like you're...
1. A pretty awesome doormat.
Everyone just walks all over you! All the time! Though you complete your duty of being there for everyone, they often take advantage of it and just scrape their shoes all over you. Sure you can handle it occasionally, but when every person you know is doing it to you all the time, it just gets old.
2. Doing something wrong.
You keep helping others and doing things for everyone else, and yet here you are. When you're in need of someone or something, you find yourself stranded alone and fending for yourself.
3. "Just too nice."
You'll often say to yourself, "Okay, this time, I'll say no." *Friend asks you to do something* *Say no! Say no!!* "Yeah totally!!" Sh*t. You just did it again. Well, maybe you'll say no next time...
4. Giving people the wrong idea.
When you're nice, people often take it the wrong way. They generally mistake your niceness for flirting... and well, we all know that just doesn't end well.
5. Expected to be nice all the time.
The first time you say no, or get the smallest bit upset, people look at you like you have four heads. Like, come on people! I know I'm nice, but I am human!
6. Trusted by everyone.
When you're the nice one of the friend group, you're not usually one to talk about others or complain. So most people trust you with their secrets and gossip. So if you ever decided to turn to the dark side, you've got a lot of tricks under your sleeve.
7. Always described as being "nice."
*Looks in yearbook: every signature says "... you're so nice..." in one form or another* *Takes online quiz. Choose one word to describe you: Nice.*
*Friends describing you to others* "Oh she/he is so nice!!"
Yes, I understand I'm nice. Can we find a new adjective to describe me now??
8. One to make others happy.
The best part about being nice all the time, is seeing the joy that you can bring to others. Although you find yourself hurting from giving so much all the time, you realize that that's what life is about. "It is nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice."
