Every day I took the bus to public school. I used to watch the soccer moms dropping their kids off in their Mercedes Benz and the child would exit, Dunkin Donuts in hand. I was always jealous because the bus was loud and rickety and my bus driver was not very nice to me sometimes. Now of course, I would get a ride every now and again if I had a doctor's appointment before school or I missed the bus, but you could find me most days of the school year, sitting in that old rickety bus. As I have gotten older, I think back on my times on the bus and all the things i learned on it.
I remember the day I got on it in the third grade after I had just moved. The driver yelled at me for drawing on her windows.
I remember the day I got hit with a seat belt, because kids were mean.
I remember sharing earbuds with my friends so we could all enjoy our favorite songs.
I remember getting in trouble during my senior trip because my friend and I were dancing down the isle.
I remember all the jackets I have left on the buses over the years, may they rest in peace
I remember when my sister made it to middle school and got to ride the bus with me.
I remember nearly throwing up because I found gum where I had sat down.
I remember my friends and I bracing ourselves for the big speed bump ahead.
Most of all I remember the memories made, good and bad that helped to shape who I am. Sure I did not get dunkin donuts in my mom's Mercedes, but I got a bagel fresh out of the toaster with a note that said have a great day! I got to make new friends every year as new people came on the bus. I got to laugh and cry and make memories that only a bus can bring. So Yes, I took the Bus and it took me on a journey that shaped me for the rest of my life.
