I am by no means an expert on life, or equipped/educated to be a therapist and dish out life advice, but I feel I've learned a lot and want to share what I've learned with college students who may be going through a tough time and need some help and something to read. I usually don't write inspirational things, but I've been feeling motivated lately, so here goes.
You are not broken.
You are stronger than the things or people that try to knock you down. You've come this far in life, you can continue on this path. Just keep fighting, because you are not broken.
To the people in life that have left you, whether it is family, a significant other or a friend: leave them in the past. Build yourself up by spending energy on those who make an effort to stay in your life. This will strengthen you when you are down. You are not broken.
Failing a test, messing up a job or project, or not continuing down a path you'd planned on going down does not make you any less of a person. Those mistakes you make are proof that you are trying. You are not destroyed because of a few bumps in the road. You are not broken.
What has happened to you may suck. It may be awful and the worst thing you have ever experienced, but know this: it will get better. Sometimes, as I'm sure we've all heard, things need to fall apart before they get better. Say you get dumped, or your friend ditches you. It doesn't look bright now, but this door closing may be opening another, better door. These things may hurt you, but you are not broken.
What if people don't like you? What if your loved ones disapprove of what you have chosen to do with your life, your choice of partner, or major? They may try to tear you down with words, and shut you down because they don't understand. But I know you can rise up against the negativity. You may fall, but you are not broken.
I know a lot of what I've said sounds cliche and has been said a million times, but sometimes, one more time of reading it will do the trick. If you are having a bad day, week, or month I want you to look at yourself in the mirror and repeat this: I am not broken.
