November 8, 2016... The season finale of America.
I'm just kidding.
However, there is a serious issue at hand here in America. Hint: it's not our newly-elected president. As everyone knows, Donald Trump will serve as our nation's President for the next four years. I can honestly say that I am proud to be an American. Not because of our who our new president is or because of who our previous president was, but because I live in a free country. That's a privilege.
The serious issue at hand here lies within us Americans. That's right, all of us living in America. We have let this Presidential election tear us apart as a nation. We've divided ourselves, more so now than ever before. We have discriminated against each other for not having the same political views that we ourselves do. There have been so many arguments that I have first-handedly heard, and those that I have seen on social media; fights that begin with politics and end with, "Unfriend me/block me/don't talk to me if you voted for ______." Does anyone understand how ridiculous this is???? We're willing to give up friendships over a clown race? I cannot fathom losing my best friend over a political debate. We've become so numb to what the media said about both candidates and we've built our own walls up. We've segregated ourselves where political parties are concerned. Why? What is the purpose of this? It breaks my heart to see our nation split in half, and friendships/relationships broken due to who won this Presidential election. I urge you to put your political differences and pride aside. I urge you to see each side of the debate from a different perspective than your own. People had different reasons for voting for either candidate, and just because they voted for a particular one doesn't mean they agree with everything that candidate believes in. And if a supporter of either candidate is acting a certain way, you cannot place all supporters of that candidate into a specific category, stereotyping them, and acting like they're monsters. It's unfair. Being close-minded is not going to help anything or anyone, including yourself.
We are all created equal and we all have the right to have our own political beliefs and opinions. We have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. These are sweet freedoms my Americans, because if I were to go to a country in the Middle East and practice Christianity, I could be killed for doing so. Be thankful and stop taking freedom for granted.
I've seen social media posts saying that they will no longer stand during the National Anthem or say the Pledge of Allegiance. Let me just point out to you that you do not stand during these things to honor our President; you stand to honor those who died for your freedom.
I've seen people saying they want to move to Canada. (It's more expensive, sorry.)
I've seen social media posts saying, "If you voted for Trump, make sure you tell your LBGT+, female, POC, latino/a, muslim, and black friends why you don't care about them."
I've even seen many social media posts saying, "He's not my President." I hate to tell you this, but he is. He won the election. He is the President, whether you agree or not. I think the main thing that many people are forgetting is that no matter who our President is, Jesus is KING. I have full trust in my God that He will carry our country. I've got not doubts. My God is a God of love, faith, and mercy. My God can move mountains. I wasn't concerned for our Presidential election because I know who my king is. Rather than discriminating against each other and tearing each other down for our differing political beliefs, pray for our country. Take all of the time you spend debating and discriminating, and put it towards prayer for our nation. Our country needs more of Jesus, and less of our worldly dispositions. We're better together, y'all. Together we stand, divided we fall.
