'I just want to be normal...'
As I look around at today's youth in this world I find myself hearing this phrase more often than I should.
What defines normal? If it is based on what society says then we sure are screwed. Degrading woman in music, judging others based on their skin color, 13 year olds in crop tops & their butt cheeks hanging out of their shorts, popularity based on how many likes your Instagram picture or how many Twitter followers you have. Why does any of this matter? Does this really make you that 'cool?'
Normal should be defined an what makes you happy. Your hobbies, your likes, what music your into, etc. Our youth today is so confused as to who they need to be when in all reality they just need to be them and stop focusing on what everyone else thinks. This is so much easier said than done.
What if the cool thing to do was spend time with your friends and actually talk? Or take a day trip with your family? Or lose yourself in a good book or your favorite music? Or ride around dancing in your car with your friends on a Friday night? No social media, no texting, no cellphones! Wouldn't life be much more exciting?!
At the end of the day the only person that should be defining what 'normal' is, is you. Who cares what society says or what your peers think? Do what makes you happy. Enjoy life & do you!
