Today's Goal: Stay Employed

Monday doesn't accept bribes, so we've got to find a way to deal with it.

Today's Goal: Stay Employed
Kathy Weller

Here we go! Another workweek has begun. We've done everything we could to prepare, or even to coax it away, but Monday doesn't accept bribes, so we've got to find a way to deal with it.

We all have our own way of handling Mondays. My personal method is to greet it with enthusiasm, because forcing a smile makes it a lot harder to cry before I've even left for work. It may not be the most honest approach, but the charade can eventually lead to sincerity, so I've been told.

Some choose to meet Monday with just as much malice as it has treated them to over the years. This unhealthy escalation can lead to a lot of grumbles, bad attitudes and, in some severe instances, a case of "The Mondays" can develop. Not to worry, though, "The Mondays" usually only lasts 12-24 hours, depending on what's for lunch and your sleep cycle (please, consult your doctor if your case of "The Mondays" lasts longer than anticipated, as these symptoms may also be indications of a more serious condition - "The Blahs").

Then comes Tuesday, looking all smug. Tuesdays, I've found, can be even harder than Mondays, especially if Monday was particularly awful. Walking into work on a Tuesday feels like trying to dodge the one person you really can't deal with right now... but Tuesday always finds you. Always.

Tuesdays always want to hang around a little longer than is comfortable, too. And they can't take a hint. You've got something to do? No problem! Tuesday will just swing by later to remind you that it's here. And it's not going anywhere.

By the time Wednesday rolls around, there is a faint glimmer of optimism that the week is halfway done. But OHMYGOSH the week is halfway done! The tower of tasks left to do before the weekend soon blocks out the light at the end of the workweek tunnel.

Wednesday feels like digging your way out of a tomb. You claw your way through your workload, barely alive, by the end of it. Why does Wednesday work feel like it takes so much longer than any other day?

By the time you come up for air, you realize that nobody is even around because it's Thursday. It's sort of surreal at first, walking through the Thursday haze, realizing that everyone has either literally or figuratively clocked out early. Either they have become a zombie, like you, or they just didn't show up.

There's still so much work to do, and you find you're pulling a lot more than your share... but honestly, you're so numb at this point that it doesn't even matter. You don't remember driving to work or how you got home, either, but when the day is done, all you really want is a good Thursday nap.

Then, it's Friday.

Finally, Friday! You're pumped for no other reason than the fact that this glorious day marks the end of your vain toils. This is, perhaps, the only day of the week you don't utterly despise.

By Friday afternoon, the weekend is within your reach! You're so close you can taste it! Friday! Yes! Get it!

And before you know it, it's Monday all over again. But that's okay. Just pace yourself. Breathe. Set simple objectives throughout the week. You can do this. We can make it! Take it one terrible day at a time.

Today's goal: stay employed.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
