Our Lives Are Ever Changing

Today Will Never Be Tomorrow

To think about what a single day consists of doesn't seem like much. The sun rises at dawn; you wake shortly after, wash your face, brush your teeth, and get yourself together. You think about your agenda for the day and you’re off to work, class, or whatever it is that the day has in store for you. You see many of the same faces, but have interactions that have never been replicated. The day turns into evening, and the evening to night, and then you rest your head on the same pillow you've done countless times before.

It’s funny to think about the cycle of a day, and yet how much can change in 365 of them. Looking back on yours, mine or anyone else’s life from where it was a year ago, things are probably drastically different. New relationships have evolved and old ones diminished. These days that we have are always slightly changing with new interactions and experiences that lead to where our lives are today.

The point is, nothing in our life is permanent and slowly changes everything for the better and the worse. This creates a beautiful struggle. Most of us are constantly fighting for security. We "need to know" the unknowing and we worry about it until we do know. We try to have control over the fate of our lives, but sometimes there is no dictating what's absolutely imminent. Not knowing can cause a lot of distress, but in a way there’s a beauty to the mystery that should be respected and embraced.

Enriching your life with the temporary can make days more meaningful. It’s easy to take people or things for granted with disregard to impermanence, but conscience thoughts of it can add value to the present. Our lives are constantly changing by the moment and they will never be in the exact same place as they are or have been again. So observe the present, embrace the unknowing and cherish what’s right here and now.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
