Sometimes reality can be a drag. Because of this, people seek many forms of escapism in things like books, binge watching television shows, and movies. For me, my favorite way of escaping reality comes when I log into the digital realm.
Playing video games has always been my favorite pastime. I started off with my Nintendo 64, and I never turned back. I eventually moved on to my older brother's original Xbox. Years later I received my very own Xbox 360 for Christmas. Now, I play on my Xbox One I bought myself.
Whether it is playing Old School Runescape in between my college courses on my laptop, or playing Overwatch with a group of friends on Xbox Live for hours on end, video games are always there to give me a break from the stresses of everyday life.
Video games have a bad rap. Growing up my mother would always tell me to stop playing games and go read a book. One of the main reasons people love books because they make you feel immersed in a entirely new world, right? Well, it's no different with video games. You get thrown into a world, you play the role of someone entirely different, and for once, nothing in the outside world matters.
